First person POV: (Y/n)

I should have known that the man would be up way before sunrise. I mean, what was I expecting?

Erwin opened the door the moment I knocked once. He's on his feet and recovering well, wearing his uniform and looking put together like always.

"I have come to inform you of my decisions regarding my Squad." I announce and push into the room. I've been up for about two hours now. If I'm correct the time is about 5:30 am. Important is that it's before sunrise. And though I'd like to sit on the roof and admire the view and the sun, I had work to do and things to discuss with Commander Eyebrows here.

"Alright, I am listening," Erwin says and takes a seat behind his makeshift desk in the room. I drag a chair from across the room to sit beside the table and lay the papers I'd taken with me out for him.

"These are the records of the people I want in my Squad – Correction – have in my Squad," I state. Erwin gives me side-eye when I state the last part.

"I sought them out yesterday night, and they all agreed to be a part of my squad. I read their files and I believe with some extra training, they can become the best in this Regiment."

Erwin examines the files and then turns to me, "Aren't these the same—"

"—Yes, they are."

Erwin furrows his brows, "Do not interrupt me."

I shrug and throw one leg over the other knee, "I warned you, Erwin. You'll never get that much respect out of me as you do from other Scouts. I'm sorry, but if there's something to talk about or a question to answer, I get to the point," I explain.

Erwin doesn't answer. He just examines the papers some more and then gathers them up, hands them back to me, and looks into my eyes. I again have the sense that he can just see through my skin and bones and straight to my soul. Fuck, that feeling will forever be unsettling.

"How much did you tell them?" Erwin finally asks.

"Just the most important. Of why there's another Special Ops Squad being put together this fast and what their main objective is for now," I reply without missing a beat.

"You didn't tell them about the Titans being actually humans theory, did you?"

I shake my head, "No. I know confidential info when I hear it. Besides it's just a theory, nothing's proven," I hake a breath, "There's no need to seed up panic before we're hundred per cent sure."

Erwin nods before standing and walks to the window. He stops by it and stares out for a long while. For a moment I think it's my que to leave but then Erwin speaks again; "There are many uncertainties surrounding the Regiment right now. I am glad that you decided to step up." He turns to face me. "This Regiment needs strong officers should anything happen to me. We both saw how easy it is to be plucked off a horse in the middle of the battle. This time I lived but I many not the next time."

I chuckle at his words, "Is Commander Eyebrows scared?" I tease. I earn a glare to that. I know it's not a thing to joke with, he's just a man too, and of course he can get scared at times.

"Well, either way, it's bold of you to assume that your Midget Friend is letting you anywhere near the field work before you're fully healed and cleared by the doctors." Erwin doesn't answer but he does look down at his feet.

"He threatened to break your leg, didn't he?" I ask with a bit of a smile on my lips.

"Levi did do that," Erwin answers, I can hear the amusement, "I doubt it'll be the last time, too."

"For what it's worth, Eyebrows," I start and wait for him to look at me. When he finally does, I go on, "I do have to agree with Levi here. This Regiment cannot afford to lose a Commander."

"Hange's next in line."

"And I love them, I really do, but no one...Not one person could replace you, Erwin."

He stares at me silently, looks me over once and then offers me one teeny tiny seed of hope, "I'll take that into consideration."

My Squad awaits me when I exit the building. The boys look tired and ready to head back to bed. Honesty so do I. I'm tired, I wanna sleep and honestly that's what I'mma do the moment we get to the county side.

"Hello, my dear shoe soles," I greet whilst walking past my squad and dropping my bags into the carriage. I've got Loki and Icarus running around my feet, demanding attention. I'd rescued them from Hange's office right after I left Erwin.

At this point I'm not even bothering to hide that I've taken in two cats. I mean what are they gonna do? Erwin needs me and I'm not getting rid of my two babies.

"Levi's Squad should be here soon too, so I'd recommend claiming your seats because the moment they get here and loaded up, we're moving," I say and grab my horse from the Scout standing to the side.

"You're not riding with us?" Oswald asks as they've all boarded the carriage.

"No. I'm guarding the left side. It probably won't be necessary but Erwin wants to be careful."

The building doors slam open and a handful of kids step out, all yawning and carrying their bags. Levi's the last to exit the building.

All the way to the carts I hear the kids arguing and whining about having to be up earlier than usual. Lord have mercy on me, I'm going have to spend who knows how long with 'em.

"Hey," Levi greets when he gets to me.

"Morning," I reply, "I truly feel bad for you." I say and point to the whiny kids.

Levi clicks his tongue and looks away from them and how they're trying to organize themselves into the carriage but as usual Eren's picking a fight with Jean.

"I am slowly starting to regret all my life's decisions." Levi mutters, glancing back to the kids from the corner of his eye.

I smile at the statement. He is right though, the kids are menaces and I'd regret all my life's decision as well.

"I went to Erwin in the morning," I say and let go of Athena's reigns for a moment to pick up Loki and Icarus and place them in the carriage with my Squad, "Keep an eye on them, okay? If anything happens to them I'll first kill everyone here," I hiss, "And then myself."

I grab Athena's reigns again and face Levi again, "You'd threatened to break his leg." I hear the silence that falls in my Squad's carriage, I give them a glance over my shoulder before turning back to the man before me.

Levi starts walking to his own Squad's cart, "Well, if he can't sit still 'till full healing then I might just have to do that," he says as he drops his bag into this Squad's carriage and pushes the back door closed and seals it from the inside. The kids are still arguing over whatever.

"Anything else interesting?" Levi then turns to me. I shake my head at first but then, "Wait there is something, but it's like this super-secret thing," I say and move to the shadow of the carriage. Brow raised, Levi follows me. As soon as I know no one's looking, I pull him in and kiss him.

I enjoy this stolen moment before pulling away, "That's all," I smile at Levi bit still hold my arms around his neck. To my surprise he lean in and places another kiss on my lips, "One for the road," he mutters and then pulls away, out of my arms and collects his horse.

I bring my hands to my lips and smile to myself. After yesterday night you'd assume that a small kiss would not affect me as much but it's all so new still that every touch this man places on me makes me want to smile and jump up and down like a child.

"(Y/n)! We have to get going!" Levi calls from somewhere. I brush my head empty and go gather my own horse.

The moment I'm on Athena we're moving toward our destination. Our new future.
