ALORA
The news of Aziel's return spread through the pack like wildfire. Everyone buzzing with the anticipation of welcoming back the hero who had served in the army and was now ready to take his rightful place as Alpha. Banners were hung, a grand feast was prepared, and the air was filled with a sense of celebration and joy. I, however, couldn't share in the pack's enthusiasm. For me, Aziel's return was a double-edged sword to my stomach.
As the pack assembled at the border to welcome him, I lingered at the back, trying to be invisible. If Aziel saw me, he was going to ask me about Cara and I couldn't bear to tell him the unfortunate news.
My heart pounded with an intensity that made it hard to breathe. Aziel had always been larger than life and very protective of Cara. He trusted me to also protect Cara before he went to the army and I failed him.
As he approached, his presence seemed to fill the entire forest. He looked different from the boy that left for the army, His tall, muscular frame moved with a grace that belied his size, his dark hair tousled by the breeze, and his piercing blue eyes scanning the crowd.
When those eyes landed on me, I felt a jolt of something primal and undeniable. It was as if an invisible thread had snapped taut between us, pulling me towards him. My breath caught in my throat, and a realization hit me like a thunderbolt: Aziel was my mate. The bond was powerful because he was an Alpha and I was a Beta Female.
But I pushed the feeling down, knowing how unlikely it was that someone like him would be destined for someone like me. I was the pack outcast, shunned by everyone, even my three brothers, who blamed me for our sister Cara's death. The thought of being mated to Aziel felt like a cruel joke, a dream that could only end in heartbreak.
That night, the pack celebrated Aziel's return with a grand feast. Long tables were set up in the clearing, laden with food and drink. The air was filled with music and the scent of roasting meat. I sat at the edge of the gathering, picking at my food just waiting for the time Aziel would lash out and send me out of the pack for his sister.
As the festivities continued, I slipped away into the quiet of the forest, the night was cool and still, the moon casting a silver glow over everything. I wandered aimlessly, trying to come up with a way to calmly tell him what had really happened, that's if Constance hadn't blabbed to him.
"Alora," a deep voice gently called out, and I froze. I knew that voice anywhere even if it deepens to the depth of baritone. My heart leaped into my throat as I turned to see Aziel standing there, his eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that took my breath away. He was even more imposing up close.
"We need to talk,"
I nodded, unable to speak, and followed him to the direction I knew to be his cabin, the cabin he and my brothers built when they were teenagers with the help of the late Alpha.
Inside, the cabin was dimly lit, the soft glow of a single lamp casting shadows on the walls. Aziel turned to face me, his gaze burning into mine.
"You felt it too, didn't you?" he asked, his voice a low growl.
I swallowed hard, nodding. "Yes."
Without another word, he closed the distance between us, his lips crashing onto mine with a fervor that left me dizzy. His kiss was demanding, urgent, and I responded with equal intensity. He didn't know, he didn't know his mate was a cause of his sister's death. I felt myself melting into him, my inhibitions dissolving in the heat of the moment.
He lifted me effortlessly, carrying me to his bed. As he laid me down, I looked into his eyes, seeing a mix of desire and something darker, something I couldn't quite place. His touch was both gentle and possessive, his lips tracing a path down my neck as he whispered my name.
"You're as beautiful as ever Alora."
I whimpered as he took off my clothes and spread wet kisses all over my body.
"This is going to hurt baby but I promise I will make it good."
He positioned at my entrance and went in with a single powerful thrust. I screamed and he swallowed it in his mouth.
"I'm sorry love, Zev is as excited as I am. You kept yourself for us."
He moved slowly and the pain turned into burning pleasure. I moved my hips to urge him the go harder and he happily obliged.
I cried out as I reached my peak which triggered Aziels'. He growled and stayed still for a while before pulling out.
When it was over, I fell asleep in his arms with him gently caressing my hair.
...............................................................................................................................................
I woke to find Aziel gone. My heart sank to my stomach, he must have gone back to the packhouse and people would definitely catch my scent on him.
I quickly wore my clothes and ran to the packhouse, praying no one had told him before I did.
But it was already too late, I got to a trashed general room and Constance was rubbing soothing circles on Aziel's back. She looked at me and smirked that she had won.
Aziel rose his head to look at me, the warmth of the night before was gone, replaced by a cold, distant look in his eyes.
"Alora," he began, his voice devoid of the tenderness I had heard just hours before.
"Let me explain Az, it was not my fault."
He stood up and walked towards me, his eyes hard. "You're the reason Cara is dead. I can't have you as my mate."
His words cut through me like a knife. Cara, his beloved sister and my best friend, had died in an accident two years ago. An accident I had been present in and had no control over. It was the night of Cara's birthday, she insisted to take my car to a distant pack where her boyfriend was, with or without me.
I reluctantly obliged and then we had a fatal accident with a truck who ran the red light. Cara died on scene while I was in a coma for six months. Constance blamed me and twisted the story to everyone to make me the Villain and no one wanted to hear my side, the truth, even my brothers didn't hear me. To them I was the bad one, the one who made Cara follow me to my boyfriend's house at the north-side.
The guilt and pain of that day had haunted me ever since, but hearing Aziel blame me so directly was like reopening a wound that had never truly healed.
"Aziel, it wasn't my fault," I pleaded, tears welling up in my eyes. "Az, please hear me out. Constance doesn't know the true story."
"Don't you ever call me that!" he snapped. "Every time I look at you, I see her. I can't lead this pack with you by my side."
I felt like the ground had been ripped out from under me. The bond, the passion, everything we'd shared the night before, meant nothing to him. "Please, Aziel," I whispered, but he shook his head.
"I, Aziel Ives, reject you, Alora Oakes as my mate and the Luna of Ives Pack."
I felt the bond shatter and Lyra, my wolf howled in pain.
"It's over, Alora. Leave, now. The only thing I can do to honor your father is to give you the cabin. I don't want to ever see you again."
Heartbroken and humiliated, I fled the Packhouse.
I reached the edge of the pack's territory and collapsed to my knees, sobbing. The forest around me seemed to close in, the trees whispering their condolences as I cried out my pain. I was alone, truly alone. Even my own brothers had turned their backs on me, blaming me for Cara's death. And now, the one person who was supposed to be my fated mate had rejected me in the most cruel way possible.
