AZIEL
I heard a knock on my door, disrupting my siesta. I reluctantly opened it and met a young boy who wore a junior guard uniform.
"Good afternoon Alpha. A letter for you from the office of the enforcers." He handed me the letter, bowed and left.
I sat on the chair, the letter resting in my hands. I knew the stamp from anywhere, the seal of the royal chief pack warrior. But what would the chief want from me?
I tore the envelope and read the content of the letter.
'If you want to know part of the truth about Cara, come to Moon Leaf Garden by nighttime. there is a statue of a wolf, turn its head and a secret door on the ground will open, climb down the ladder and you will find the truth. make sure to come alone''
A deep sigh escaped my lips. The letter wasn't signed, but its message was clear. The weight of curiosity was heavier than the skepticism gnawing at my gut. I had to know the truth, no matter the cost.
In the night, after ensuring Constance was fast asleep, I slipped out of bed and dressed quietly. I moved with the silence of a shadow, my heart pounding in my chest as I made my way to the Moon Leaf Garden.
The garden was eerily quiet, the statues and flora bathed in silver moonlight. My breath misted in the cold night air as I crept through the maze of flowers and statues, my eyes scanning for the wolf statue mentioned in the letter.
When I found it, nestled between two large bushes, I hesitated for only a moment. Reaching out, I gripped the cold stone head of the wolf and carefully turned it. The statue creaked slightly, and to my astonishment, a section of the ground beside it shifted, revealing a secret door, just like the letter had said."
With my senses on high alert, I descended the ladder into the darkness below. The door above me shut with a heavy thud, enclosing me in the blackness. The sound of my own breathing filled the small space as I adjusted to the bright light filtering through cracks in the stone walls.
Then, a voice broke the silence. "Hey, Aziel."
I spun around, my hand instinctively going to the hilt of my dagger. Standing in the shadows was Romy?
"Romy?" I asked, my voice laced with surprise. "What's going on? why are you here, in the westside? You are the chief's mate?"
Romy stepped into the light, a ghost of a smile on her lips. "I see you made it here without any trouble."
"No trouble," I replied cautiously. "But what is this about? Why the secrecy? and where have you been all these years?"
She sighed, the sound filled with weariness. "After I left the pack and sought asylum here in the Westside, I was granted safety. I signed up to be a cleaner in the palace, and that's when I met my mate. But that's not what this is about."
"Then what is it about?" I pressed, the tension in my chest tightening. "Why did you call for me?"
"There are things you don't know, Aziel," she began, her voice soft but firm. "Things that could change how you see everything—Cara, Alora, even Constance."
My heart pounded. "What are you talking about?"
Romy looked me straight in the eye. "The girl you chose as your Luna... Constance... she's not who you think she is. She's a green poisonous snake lying in the grass, and you need to be very careful around her. Don't trust her, Aziel."
A chill ran down my spine. "What do you mean? What has Constance done?"
"She made all of us lie," Romy said bitterly. "Constance threatened to expose our individual secrets if we didn't follow her lead. Cara did have a boyfriend in the Northside, and Alora was innocent all along. Cara regularly visited her boyfriend, and she would come back to tell us all about it. But that day... the day Alora followed her... it wasn't Alora's fault. Cara died, and Alora ended up in a coma for six months."
