Theodore marked his calendar with a bright red marker: Simon's birthday. This year, the chipmunks and chipettes were planning a grand birthday surprise for their dear brother.
He stretched his arms as he emerged from the duvet and yawned. He rotated his head to observe the blue-clad chipmunk still fast asleep... along with the red-clad.
Theodore scampered towards Alvin.
"Alvin..." he whispered. "Alvin? Alvin!"
"AAH!" Alvin screamed like a girl.
"Oh no, Alvin. Were you a-asleep?" Theodore whimpered.
"No, Theodore. I was vacuuming the living room." Alvin rolled his tired eyes.
Theodore's emerald eyes collapsed into a dazed look of bewilderment.
"But how could you have been vacuuming the living room if—"
"Of course I was asleep, Teddy boy!" he grumbled.
"Shhh, you'll wake Simon," Theodore rebuked, gesturing towards the blue-clad who was still murmuring and sleep-talking, probably something about his latest invention.
Theodore grabbed Alvin's hand and dragged him across the room to Simon's lab. Alvin rubbed his tired eyes.
"Ugh... what are you doing, Theodore? Simon's lab?"
"All the party decorations and gifts are ready for Simon's party. They're in his lab!"
"Theodore, there's no way Simon's gonna give his passcode to—"
And with that, Theodore scampered up to the lab porch and punched in the sequence. Alvin's eyes widened in shock.
"Ta da!" Theodore propped his hands on his hips in triumph.
"Cool!" Alvin swooned as he tried to break entry into Simon's lab.
"Nuh uh!" squeaked Theodore as he gripped Alvin's shoulders and pulled him out of the lab.
Alvin started crying dramatically. "Oh, but Theodore! What's the point of having Simon's password when you can't—"
"What are you guys doing?" a voice came from behind them.
Alvin and Theodore positioned themselves in the lab doorway, trying to hide the festivities parked inside the lab.
"Uhhh..." they both hesitated.
"You can't go into my lab!" Simon yelled.
"But we—"
"...without the appropriate eyewear," Simon finished, pushing his glasses higher up his nose. "Still, Theodore, I'm curious as to why you asked for my passcode to the lab."
"WHAT?" Alvin shrieked the top of his lungs. "Theodore just asked for your password and you gave it? JUST LIKE THAT?"
"There, there, Alvin." Theodore patted Alvin's shoulder to comfort him.
"Theodore, stop that!"
"Oh gee, Alvin, I feel so bad," Simon muttered to himself sarcastically.
"THANKS FOR YOUR SARCASM, SIMON!" Alvin shouted from the other side of the room.
When Simon had finally left the room, the two chipmunks began planning the decorations and the party guests.
Theodore waved a sheet of paper with a guest list on.
GUEST LIST:
* Brittany
* Jeanette
* Eleanor
* Dave
* Kevin
* Cheesy
* Warren
* Bruce
* Jamie
* Bo-Carter"BO-CARTER?" Alvin spat out. "Oh, NO way are we inviting him."
Alvin grasped the sheet and squiggled out his name with the red marker.
The chipettes ziplined into the chipmunks' bedroom.
"Hey, boys!" they squealed.
"Whatcha up to, Alvin?" asked Brittany.
"None of your—"
"Guest list for Simon's birthday!" Theodore answered.
"Cool! Everything is nearly ready," said Jeanette. "All we have to do is hang up the decorations and buy our gifts."
"Ooh, about the gift," answered Alvin, "I'm currently out of pocket money. So I'm going to need all of you to chip in."
"No can do," Brittany snapped, admiring her nails.
"Gee, sorry, Alvin," Jeanette replied worriedly.
"Later!" Eleanor waved as she ran away from the situation.
"Well, Ted, that leaves you."
Theodore shuffled his feet and twirled his fingers.
"I dunno, Alvin. I actually have a, um... shop to go to later today, to get some..." He looked at his bed. "Oh yeah! Some pillows..."
"Pillows? Why do you need pillows all of a sudden?"
"For, um, for Simon's birthday!"
"Are you buying him a new bed or something?"
"Yes, yes, that's it! A new bed for Simon..." Theodore dangled his head low in embarrassment.
"O-o-okay, then."
The chipmunks and chipettes left to get ready for Simon's birthday and arrange the decorations. Finally, the clock struck five: time for the party.
"Where are you taking me, Jeanette?" groaned Simon.
Jeanette had removed Simon's glasses and so he had trusted her to guide him through the house to his destination.
"You'll see. Now, go a bit more forward. Now right— no, your other right!"
"You mean left?"
"No, your other left!"
"What?" Simon walked into the stairs banister. "OUCH!"
Finally, after shrieks of pain and crying, Simon had arrived at his destination: the living room. Jeanette placed his glasses on his eyes and told him to open his eyes.
"SURPRISE!" everyone yelled with huge smiling faces.
"Happy birthday, Simon!" squeaked the chipettes.
"We love you, Si!" Alvin and Theodore said in unison.
"Aww, guys, this is fantastic! Blue decorations, blue gift wrap, blue—"
Theodore stuffed a bowl of blueberries into his face and beamed.
"... berries?"
The guests laughed.
"And now, for the gifts," Brittany announced dramatically. "Alvin, you go first." She smirked.
"Teddy boy, why don't you start?" Alvin chuckled nervously. "Besides, Theo, I'm dying to see the new bed you got him!"
"Wait, wait, bed?" Simon asked in confusion.
"Oh, about that—"
"Quick like a bunny, Theodore, where is it?"
"I-I-I didn't get him a new bed."
"But you said you were going to the shop to get new pillows and—"
"Alright, that's enough, Alvin," Dave sighed as he covered Alvin's mouth.
"What colour is it? Come on, Theodore! Don't hide it! I wanna see—"
"Alvin..." Eleanor warned. "Be quiet!"
"But Theodore said—"
"ALVINNN!!!"
