Kelly wasn't expecting her to say that, but he wasn't going to judge her. He knows she probably had her reasons, and it's her business. But he was curious as to why she felt God was punishing her for it. "Do you want to talk about it?" He asked as he reached for her hand. "We don't have to; you don't have to tell me anything you don't want to tell me."
She gives him a grateful look. "Isn't a marriage based on honesty?"
"Yeah, but..
"Kelly, I want you to know everything about my past. I mean, you already know a big part of it, but there is still some stuff I want you to know. Especially if we are serious about making this marriage work."
"I definitely want to make this marriage work."
"Me too." She moves closer to him. He wraps her in his arms. "My grandma used to say, Accept your past without regrets, handle your present with confidence, and face your future without fear. I'm ready to let go of my past, just hoping you can understand it."
"I'm not going to judge you, Stella; it's not my business why you chose to get an abortion. Nothing you say to me is going to make me rethink our marriage."
She nods her head slowly. "Before we talk past, let's talk present and future."
"Okay."
"Do you want kids?"
"I do."
"Me too." She bites her lip. "Did Monica ever get pregnant while you guys were together?"
"No, she didn't want kids; she hated kids, actually."
Stella's eyes widen. "Wow! How could someone hate kids?"
Kelly shrugged. "I don't know, but she used to get so irritated every time we were somewhere where there were a lot of kids."
"I want at least three."
"Well, we could have nine." He suggested it with a wink.
"Nine?" She asked with a look of horror. "That's too many."
"I figure we have ten bedrooms here; why not fill them up with kids?"
"I think we could find other options when it comes to the extra bedrooms." She tells him, laughing.
"Three sounds perfect to me." He tells her this as he kisses her softly.
"I figure three would be a good number and easy to manage." She looks down at his chest. The next part was going to be hard, but she needs him to know. "If I'm unable to give you a baby, I will completely understand if you want out of this marriage."
Kelly raised his eyebrow in confusion, and the room went silent for a moment. He saw her tears falling. He lifts her chin, his heartbreaking at the sight of seeing her cry. "Listen to me." She closed her eyes. "Please open your eyes, Stella." He begged. As his thumb wiped her tears away. She exhaled sharply and opened her eyes. He hated seeing her brown eyes so sad. "If, for whatever reason, we can't have a baby together, I'm not going anywhere. We can adopt; I don't need the kids to look like me. I would love our future adopted kids, like they were my own."
"Really? You would be okay if we had to adopt." She couldn't believe how wonderful this man was. God, is she a lucky woman.
"As long as I get to have a family with you, I don't care how we become a family. I'm excited for our future."
"I am excited too; I haven't been this excited about my future in years. But I can't wait to see what's in store for us." She kisses him as her right hand caresses his cheek. "You running my grandfather's company, me opening up my own bakery thanks to your grandma, getting to know you better, raising a family with you. Taking our kids places like the beach, Disneyland, on cruises, movies, and ice cream dates." She smiles. "Our future looks pretty good to me."
