Cursed To Death

"... Nanami... You should have told us that you got injured."

"..."

"You're being quiet because you think that we'd just get in the way, aren't you?" Yuji seethed, a harsh glare evident in his expression. Clearly he was pissed and to be honest, Y/N was kind of pissed too. It wasn't because of Nanami getting hurt, it was because she should have said something to Yuji when she found out that he knew where the cursed user or whatever it was they were looking for and lied about it.

"It's you that got hurt, next time take us with you! 'My partner died, but I wasn't with him when it happened', 'Why not?', 'Well, because I'm just a child!'. Not again, I have to go." Yuji added on, making Y/N cringe at the thought of a conversation like that.

She'd probably cry if she had a conversation like that with someone.

She stood next to Yuji, looking at Nanami who chose to stand across the hallway and she really wondered if even informing Yuji would've been a good idea anyway. Yuji was unreasonable sometimes when it came to helping others. She could be pretty unreasonable all together.

At the same time, was it even their position to choose if they could help Nanami anyway? She knew Nanami didn't want any help because it was dangerous but she also knows that Yuji's livid now and Nanami could've died.

"You can't." Nanami replies with a straight face. "As you've seen, the patchwork cursed spirit we're fighting uses transfigured people, there are some people who are beyond saving-"

"We understand that, but you can't teach us if you die Nanami." Y/N cuts him off, siding with Yuji in the matter even though she knows Nanami will probably say no anyway. "You aren't any use to anyone dead."

"It doesn't matter because if the two of you continue in this work, there'll come a time when you are forced to kill a person yourself."

Y/N swallowed, thinking back to last night and their talk with Junpei. Didn't they just talk about how they didn't want to do that because it would taint their soul?

She didn't want a tainted soul.

"But this is not that time."

Yuji didn't want one either, even though theoretically, his soul was already tainted by Sukuna.

"Please understand this, being a child is not a sin." Nanami continued, sighing as he fixed his glasses "And so for now, I'd like you to continue monitoring Junpei Yoshino."

"... And what about me? I'm not a child." Y/N calmly states, getting no real response in return as he walks away except for another sigh.

He sounded tired and if anything, almost annoyed.

Where was he even going? Who knows?

Maybe to avoid the conversation entirely or maybe to reevaluate the area he fought the patchwork cursed spirit at.

All Y/N knows is that at the moment, she wants to buy something good to eat for her and Yuji to calm down with. It'll make him feel better at least.

"... Yuji?"

"What?" He quietly replied, though she could hear a lingering sound of attitude. Maybe frustration.

She knew how to cheer him up though.

"Hey, let's get a Vietnamese bowl... Okay?"

"I'm not in the mood for food." He mumbled out on cue until he actually registered her words. Great, he fell right into her food trap. "... Vietnamese bowl?"

"Uh, yeah." Y/N deadpanned, as if it was the most obvious thing to say in this scenario.

"... You think they have that dish here in Kawasaki city?"
