"There comes a time when a young wolf has to make a journey, a journey to discover who they are. They meet with the stars, long lines of ancestors that came before them. It is their sole purpose as a wolf to complete this journey. It's what they were born to do."

The two little wolves stared up at the man in wonder, eyes sparkling with the reflection of a thousand stars.

"Is it fun?"

"Is it dangerous?"

The overlapping words paused them, the two sending a glare at the other's choice of question.

"It is the most magical thing a wolf can experience."

"Will we have to go on this jer-ney one day?" the smaller one asked.

The man nodded, rubbing his hand on the top of her head. She groaned and fixed her ruffled hair.

"When will we know to go?" the other asked.

"You'll know when. It's written in the stars."

"Will you come with us?"

"I'm afraid not, my little one." He frowned and gazed up at the night sky. "It is my turn to go now; yours will come later, when you are bigger and stronger."

"You're leaving us?" the smaller one questioned quietly.

"Not until tomorrow." Tears filled the little wolves' eyes. "Do not worry, one day I'll return, sooner than you think. For now, lay with me and enjoy the stars, just for tonight."

the werewolves in this book work in a similar fashion to the ones in Twilight. Rather than being humanoid dogs, they are more like shape shifters that transform into giant wolves. In wolf form, crystal and daya can read each others thoughts but cannot talk out loud. so, creds to stephenie meyer for that aspect of this book.

crystal is a tan wolf with lilac highlights/undertones.
daya is a fully black wolf.
