--Y/n's perspective--The next morning, the college, in its infinite wisdom, decided to have us trek through the lush green woods-something I couldn't possibly care less about.
. As the professor divided us into groups of four, I silently prayed to be paired with Pearl at the very least.
I could survive anything with her by my side.
"Y/N, Pearl, Taehyung, and... Jungkook," the professor declared.
Of course. Just my luck. I couldn't help the heavy sigh that escaped my lips.
I was happy to be with Pearl, but why him? The more I tried to distance myself from Jungkook, the more fate seemed to shove him into my life.
"The team that collects the most roses will win," the professor's voice rang out, but the idea of competing for a pointless win was far from motivating.
Once in the forest, Jungkook darted around like a madman, plucking roses with an energy I could never muster for this.
Meanwhile, I was aimlessly wandering, lost in my own thoughts, trying my best to avoid him without making it obvious.
Pearl and Taehyung had disappeared somewhere into the depths of the woods-probably lost like me, or perhaps actually working like Jungkook.
I couldn't help but wonder, Why does he care so much?
Winning means nothing here.
But before I could dwell on that thought, my foot landed on something sharp, and a sharp pain shot up my leg.
A thorn had lodged itself deep into the sole of my foot. I let out a pained gasp that immediately caught Jungkook's attention.
His eyes, now brimming with concern, locked onto mine as he rushed over.
"Y/N, are you okay? What happened?" He barraged me with questions, his worry almost palpable.
His sudden attention made me uncomfortable.
I leaned against a nearby tree, trying to brush off the pain and his concern.
"Nothing," I muttered coldly, hoping he'd take the hint and back off.
But of course, he didn't.
"Come sit down," he ordered, grabbing my wrist firmly.
His tone left no room for argument, but I tried brushing him off anyway.
"Come and sit" he repeated, this time with a slight edge in his voice.
Before I could protest further, he tightened his grip and pulled me to his side, his forceful touch making it clear that arguing was pointless.
Reluctantly, I sat.
He knelt in front of me, unlacing my shoe with surprising gentleness.
As he removed it, his eyes widened at the sight of the thorn deeply embedded in my foot.
"It's deep,"he murmured, his voice low.
I tried to downplay it.
"Leave it," I said dismissively, but the way his eyes darkened warned me not to push him too far.
Jungkook had always had a short fuse, and I wasn't in the mood to test it.
He softened almost immediately, surprising me.
"Y/N, can we just... be friends again?" His request caught me off guard, and I hesitated, battling my emotions.
Finally, I nodded in agreement, more out of exhaustion than anything else.
I could see a flicker of happiness in his eyes, but his face remained unreadable, that familiar poker face masking whatever he truly felt.
He carefully removed the thorn, and though it hurt, there was a strange sense of relief in it.
As I stood up, balancing myself against the tree, I forced myself to ignore the twinge of warmth in his gaze.
The rain began to fall, light at first, a soft drizzle that we could manage.
But roses, our supposed prize, were nowhere to be found. Suddenly, Jungkook stopped dead in his tracks, causing me to crash into his broad back.
"What now?" I snapped, already frustrated.
He turned to me, his expression serious.
"I think we're lost," he said flatly.
I blinked in disbelief. "We're what?" I could feel my pulse quickening.
"Lost. Deaf, too?" he retorted, adding fuel to the fire building inside me.
I glared at him. "Are you brainless? How could you get us lost?!"
He opened his mouth to respond, but I cut him off, my words spilling out in anger.
"You're so dumb! This is your fault! I shouldn't have even-"
But before I could finish my rant, the heavens opened up, and heavy rain poured down on us.
We dashed under the cover of a banyan tree, soaking wet, panting from the sudden sprint.
I was fuming, drenched, and utterly done with this day, while Jungkook sat there, casually scrolling through his phone as if everything were perfectly fine.
"Seriously? We're lost, and all you care about is your stupid phone?" I snapped, my voice dripping with frustration.
"It's useless! Just like you!"
His head snapped up, his dark eyes locking onto mine.
There was a moment of tense silence, and then, without warning, he moved.
Suddenly, I felt my back press against the rough bark of the tree, his hand firm against my neck, not choking but just enough to make me feel his presence.
And then, something warm and soft brushed against my lips.
My mind went blank. I froze, my breath caught in my throat.
He kissed me.
Jungkook's lips pressed against mine with a possessiveness that sent a shockwave through my entire body.
For a second, I couldn't move.
Couldn't think. My heart slammed against my ribs, and my soul felt like it was slipping out of my body.
What the hell just happened?!
Time seemed to stand still, rain cascading around us, while his lips stayed on mine for what felt like an eternity.
Ahem ahem
