[ CHARACTERS: ALLIE AND JEREMIAH ]

Allie's point of view;

I glanced up from the towering pile of paperbacks, my gaze landing on a group of three boys who had just entered. They were all typical teenage boys, loud and full of energy, but one stood out. He was taller than the others, with a confidence that seemed to shimmer around him. His eyes held a mischievous glint, but a depth to them also intrigued me.

As they browsed the shelves, I couldn't help but notice how the other two boys seemed to orbit around him. He was the leader of the pack. While they were more interested in comic books and action novels, he wandered towards the classics section, his fingers tracing the spines of books with a thoughtful expression.

It was then that our eyes met. His gaze held mine for a moment longer than necessary, and I felt a strange warmth. There was something about him that was both familiar and utterly captivating. As if pulled by an invisible force, I was drawn to him.

My heart pounded as he approached the counter, his friends trailing behind. "Hey," he said, his voice deeper and smoother than I'd expected. "Do you work here?"

I managed a nod, my voice barely a whisper. "Yeah, I can help you find something."

He smiled, and I felt a jolt of something electric. "I was hoping you could recommend something. I'm looking for a good adventure novel."

I looked around before seeing one of my all-time favorite novels, Lord of the Flies. I grabbed it and turned to the curly-haired boy standing near me.

"Lord of the Flies... you can't go your entire life without not having read this. It's a classic," I say, with a big grin spread across my face.

"Wow, okay. Thanks," he smiles and heads to the cash-out counter, where my friend Harper was stationed.

Jeremiah's point of view;

"Your total is $18.54," the brown-haired cashier says to me with a gentle smile.

"Here's twenty, keep the change," I say, smiling back at her. "And, uh, hey- the girl organizing the shelves over there, what's her name?" I say, nodding towards the girl who convinced me to buy this book. Maybe if we grow closer I can convince her to re-read it for me... stupid English class.

"Oh, that's Allie," she whispers, not wanting to grab Allie's attention away from her task.

"Allie... hm, good to know. Thanks."

"And she's single," Harper sings.

"Would she be interested in having my phone number?" I say, turning around and putting my focus back to the cashier.

"I don't care if she does or not, because I'm going to give it to you either way," Harper smiles big as she jots something down onto a sticky note and hands it to me, putting it in my bag along wit my book and receipt.

"You're the best wingwoman she could ever have. Thanks for the help," I say, winking and leaving the bookstore.

"Oh, don't I know it. Miss Allie is in for a treat," she winks back and gets busy with the next customer in line before I leave the store.

<<< TIME SKIP TO A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER; ALLIE'S POINT OF VIEW >>>

It was 7:00 in the morning and I was getting ready for another shift at the bookstore. I was curling my hair in the mirror, listening to my Spotify playlist in peace before I was interrupted by a "ding" sound coming from my phone, signaling that I was getting a text.

Hey, stranger :)

Um, who is this?

Sorry, I should've said, "Hey stranger (who I actually know from the bookstore downtown who introduced me to the greatest novel ever created)"

Good lord. What did Harper do?

Did Harper put you up to this?

Your friend and coworker Harper is a Godsend (:

No "buts"; no "I have plans," NONE OF THAT. I am picking you up when you're off work at noon and taking you out to lunch. Okay? "Okay thanks, Jeremiah, see you then," would be the most appropriate response.

Can I call you Jeremy? I like that name better.

NO, you may not. Catch you later. Have a good morning at work :)

Well, that was quite the plot twist that I wasn't expecting.
