Her heels echoed sharply against the moss-covered, foul-smelling pavement of the underground canal, each step reverberating through the dank space. Her gaze wandered across the walls, where grotesque fungi kaijus clung tenaciously, their forms twisting and writhing in the dim light. As she came to a halt, her eyes fell on a figure in an anti-kaiju disposal suit, crouched near the central breeding area of a fungi Honju.
The man turned his head slowly, his eyes wide and vacant, lacking any hint of humanity. "Oh, you're back," he said, his voice flat and monotone. Rising to his feet, he approached her with an unsettling, almost lifeless gait. "It's been a while, my child," he intoned in a monotone that offered no warmth.
She looked up at him, pulling the lollipop from her mouth, her lips parting in a mix of disdain and disbelief. "Don’t call me that. It’s disgusting," she said, her tone of grave and unyielding.
He tilted his head slightly, a faint trace of amusement—or something akin to it—flashing in his expression. "Is it because I am now a kaiju?" he said as his form began to shift.
Before her, he transformed into a towering, beige humanoid kaiju with a skeletal frame, shoulders adorned with sharp spikes, and a head crowned with hammerhead shark-like protrusions. His mouth was a ghastly arrangement of jagged, lipless teeth. He loomed over her, his long and slender silhouette casting a formidable shadow. "Do you not miss your father?" he asked, his mouth stretching in a grotesque attempt at a smile that only added to the eerie atmosphere.
She glared at the creature with a lethal intensity, her eyes piercing through the gloom. "Father? You? Hah, I’ve long forgotten I even had a father, Doctor Kurosawa," she scoffed, rolling her eyes before turning away and striding toward the Honju. "Or should I say, going to be identified as Kaiju No. 9?" She halted in front of the monstrous entity, captivated by the way its vibrant red spots illuminated the dark space with an almost mesmerizing glow.
"That's unfortunate," the creature said, its voice devoid of any genuine emotion. It moved closer, its limbs seeming to twitch with the intent to strike. However, her sharp reflexes triggered an unseen force, slicing through its ligaments and causing it to stagger back, momentarily taken aback.
"It’s pointless," she declared, spinning on her heel to face it again. "No matter how you try to bind me to you, you’ll only end up breaking." A feigned smile curved her lips as she tilted her head slightly, her expression a mixture of mockery and challenge. Kaiju No. 9 faltered, momentarily thrown off by her unexpected demeanor.
Turning once more to the fungal Honju, she continued with a sly grin, "Anyway, why don’t we give (Y/N) her first mission after six years of torment? How does that sound?" Her smirk widened as she sensed the surge of excitement from Kaiju No. 9.
