You weren't really sure about Winter Rivers

You weren't really sure about Winter Rivers. You didn't really want to move, but your mother gained a job as a teacher for a school for girls and that meant moving to a new home.

Unfortunately, you had to leave what little friends you had behind. Now here you were, outside of your new house. "What do you think, Y/N?"

The house was kind of nice. Three story, red brick. Though what was the point when you didn't even have friends to hang out with.

The three of you got to work, moving boxes into the house. Pots, pans, and utensils went to the kitchen. Things like beds, toothbrushes and toothpaste were set up in bedrooms.

Your room was on the top floor with a window that faced the street. All the room needed was for the walls to be painted. The room still had a bed with the comforter, blankets, and pillows for the time being.

You were in the middle of putting your bed together for the night when your parents stepped out to get pizza for dinner.

You looked outside your window, only to be surprised to see a girl staring back at you from the street in front of the house. You waved back awkwardly, and was shocked when the girl waved back.

'Maybe this will be the first friend I make?,' you thought. You made your way downstairs and to the street.

The girl had dark hair in a kind of ponytail, coffee brown eyes, and a light dusting of freckles over her cheeks. "Your new to town?"

"Yeah. We just moved in. Mom's a new teacher at the school. What about you?"

"I'm from Manhattan, but my mom grew up here and we moved back after my grandpa's funeral."

"Oh, I'm sorry for your loss.," you consoled.

The girl shook her head."It's alright. My name's Astrid, by the way.," she introduced, reaching her hand out to you.

You took it and shook, "Y/N. You ride?" You gestured your head at Astrid's bike.

"Oh, yeah. Do you have a bike?," Astrid asked.

"Yeah, I used to ride around town back at home.," you explained.

"Well, do you want a tour?," she offered with a smile.

"Sure," you answered with a smile. You grabbed your bike from the garage and texted your parents that you were going out. It was painted a metallic f/c with a basket at the front of the handles.

Astrid let out a whistle. "Your bike looks nice!"

"Thanks! My dad and I painted it!," you beamed. You could still remember the day your father brought the bike home as a surprise. You and your father spent the whole day painting the bike together.

You saddled up and followed Astrid as you biked around town. The two of you biked down streets, just enjoying the breeze through the air as houses passed you by as colorful pillars.

You pulled up right by Astrid and temporarily got lost in her. Her windswept raven hair flowed around her like a dark curtain, her face a gorgeous glow from the light of the sun.

You had to bring your mind back to the fact the you were riding a bike when a car nearly hit you. "Sorry!," you called back.

You pedaled to keep up with Astrid only to see her laughing at you. "I made the same mistake when I first rode in town."

You resumed your ride until you came upon what seemed like the town center. "This is town square. It's not much, just restaurants and businesses."

The two of you biked around some more until you came upon a tree house across from your house.

"Ooh, what's this?" You rode over and climbed off your bike, setting it against a tree.

"That tree house was set up by the previous owner of your house." Astrid's voice took on a more irate tone.

"I take it you knew them.," you guessed. What happened for Astrid to be that angry?

"Yeah. He was a jerk." Astrid made it clear she didn't want to continue talking about it.

You decided to climb the steps into the treehouse. "Do you wanna come up? I promise to be better company than the previous owner.," you joked.

Astrid rolled her eyes before climbing and joining you in the treehouse. "Well, you haven't tried to kill me yet, so that's a plus."

You raised an eyebrow in shock. "Do I get to know the story or?"

"I'll tell you one day, when I'm sure I can trust you.," Astrid said.

"So, what do you like?," you asked. Your parents always told you to ask questions to get to know someone, especially if that person is a friend.

'Or a crush,' a small part of you whispered.

"Mostly science. My dad got me into conservation. We only have one planet, we need to take care of it.," Astrid explained. "You?"

"I'm more of an art guy. Would it be okay if I painted the treehouse?," you asked. The treehouse wasn't bad, it just needed some color.

Astrid gave you a contemplative look. "Why are you asking me?"

"I mean, the previous owner tried to kill you, it only seemed fair to ask.," you explained.

"Well, you have my permission. As long as I can help paint it.," Astrid offered with a giggle.

Your phone buzzed in your pocket. You took it out to see a text from your mom telling you they were back with the pizza.

"I got to get home. Um, see you tomorrow?," you asked, a bit nervous.

Astrid's lips formed a smile. "Yeah. See you tomorrow, right here." Before you could walk off, Astrid stood on her toes and planted a kiss on your cheek.

Your own cheeks flushed red and Astrid's seemed to mirror yours before she ran off. You lifted a hand to the spot and couldn't keep the smile off your face as you made your way home.
