"Smile for the camera guys", yours and Kai's mother beamed as she forced the two of you to pose for a photo, her phone gently held within her hands. "Come on, this is like the tenth photo within the past ten minutes", you groaned as you stood beside your brother, a bouquet of flowers within your grasp. It took all your might to hold in a sneeze and the flowers occasionally brushed your face. "But my baby's are graduating, you can't blame me for wanting to remember this moment forever", your mother frowned as she wiped a tear for her eye, overwhelmed at the sight of you and Kai. You both were adorned in your black cap and gowns, your diploma's held beneath your arms. You had finally made it to the end of high school and you couldn't be any happier.
The past few years of school seemed to fly by and with it you felt the presence of your friend group getting smaller. As the oldest, Yeonjun graduated first and headed off to college. It broke your heart to be away from him. Ever since that night in the rain and the two of you became official, you had barely spent a day away from one another. Finding comfort in the moments when you were together. As schoolwork piled up for the two of you, you found yourselves slowly growing more distant. It wasn't either of your fault, and you knew that. But it still hurt to see your messages go longer and longer without a response.
"I'm sorry he couldn't make it", Kai spoke softly. It was as if he could hear exactly what was going on in your mind. "It's okay", you whispered back, your mother had finally placed her phone in her pocket and had engaged in conversation with an old friend. Kai frowned as he took the flowers from your hands and leaned down, inspecting your face closely. "You're lying", he said plainly. You raised an eyebrow, "And how do you know that?". He smiled, "Your eye twitches when you're hiding something. It's subtle but I've known you long enough to see it".
You pouted, and playfully hit him with your diploma. "Fine, I'm bummed that he's not here. Is it so wrong that I wanted my boyfriend to be here?". Kai sighed as he placed a hand on your back, leading you to a nearby bench and directing you to sit down. "No, you have every right to be upset. But just because he isn't here, doesn't mean he loves you any less. I know he did everything he could to try and be here". Kai placed the flowers down on the bench beside you and playfully messed with your hair. "I'm going to go get us some ice cream, chocolate right?", you nodded. Kai smiled before heading towards the ice cream truck, yelling that he'd be back soon.
Alone on the bench, you took a moment to process everything. You had finally graduated from high school and would be heading to college in the fall. But even though you had managed to get into the same school as Yeonjun, you hadn't had the chance to let him know. What if you ended up joining him there and he realised you weren't as cool as the people he studied with. What if he had found someone better than you?
Doubt plagued your mind as the gentle breeze hit your face. As you looked at your surroundings you, your eyes focused on the Yoona and her family. The two of you never got back the friendship that was destroyed. But, there was a mutual understanding between you both. As you watched, Yoona turned her head around and locked eyes with you. She smiled softly with a slight nod, an action which you repeated. After today, the two of you were unlikely to cross paths ever again and you swore you felt your heart ache at the thought.
"One chocolate ice cream for my favourite twin", Kai beamed as he held the cone in front of you. Laughing, you took the cone and stared at him. "I'm your only twin, so it's not an honour". Kai shrugged, taking a lick of his ice cream. "And here I was trying to be nice", he faked a sob as you got your feet, struggling to hold onto your diploma, flowers and ice cream cone now. "Let's just get to the car before I drop something"

"Thank you so much for hosting this party for us", you said as you embraced Mikyong. She looked especially beautiful today, her silk like hair pulled into an elegant updo and a sweetheart neckline dress which ended just below the knees. You felt so lucky that she was the mother in law you had received. "I was more than happy to do this for you", she smiled and she held onto you tightly. "I can't believe how far you've come". You pulled away and smiled, a sudden realisation washing over you. "Oh- Wait! I have something to show you", you declared with glee as you dug your hand into your bag and pulled out a sheet of paper. "Here, take a look".
As Mikyong scanned the paper, her eyes brightened as she gazed back at you. "I got an 100 on the math test. Your tutoring finally paid off". Mikyong pulled you in for a quick hug, her hand slowly caressing your hair. "No, this was all you. I'm so proud of you y/n".
Just as you were about to speak, both of your attention was caught by the sound of a knife hitting the side of a glass. You stared in horror as your drunken mother was stood on the dining room attention, muttering something about making a speech. "I'll handle this", Mikyong sighed as she started walking away. "Do you mind grabbing something for me outside? It's by the bandstand". You nodded before quickly escaping the house and the embarrassment your mother was causing you.
The early summer breeze brought a wave of coolness over you as you stepped into the garden. Just like the house's interior, the garden was also decorated. Adorned with paper lanterns and lights. However, something about this decor felt much more intimate.
Following the decorations, you soon found a light trail of rose petals on the ground as you neared the bandstand. You couldn't help but think about how much work Mikyong had put into this party, which you'd have to thank her later for.
The lights started to fade as you stepped in front of the bandstand. It was completely shrouded in darkness, excluding a small tealight which sat aside a small switch at the centre of it. Walking towards it, you crouched down to pick up the switch, a small note attached directing you to pull it. So, of course you did. As soon as the switch was flipped, the bandstand was resurrected into the light. You were now able to see the decorations around you, and they were beautiful.
Smiling to yourself as looked around, your eyes widened as your eyes landed on an all too familiar figure.
"Yeonjun..", her voice was tender as she felt the tears form. "Is it really... you?"
The man smiled softly as he approached you, cupping her face in his hands as he wiped away the tears. "It's me.. I'm here y/n". His touch was gentle . You stared in awe, raising her own hand to place onto of his. "I thought you couldn't come because of class-?", you whispered, disbelief still apparent on your face. He pulled your hand down and took a hold of the other one, bringing them up to his mouth as he placed a soft kiss onto them. "You're more important to me than anything y/n, even a stupid college class".
He stared at you for a moment before pulling you into his embrace. You immediately hugged him back, scared that if you let go for a moment he'd disappear. "I was worried you'd forgotten about me..", she mumbled against his chest. "I could never", his response was instant. "I'll never forget you for as long as I live y/n". You smiled as you pulled out of the embrace, tilting your head back so you could see his face. "You promise?".
"I promise"
