Mia took a deep breath and dialed Detective Jonathan's number, her fingers trembling as she pressed the call button. The phone rang a few times before it was answered.

"Detective Jonathan," the voice on the other end was authoritative yet calm.

"Detective, it's Mia—Mia Johnsonville. I've found something important related to Mason," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.

"Mia, what have you found?" Detective Jonathan's tone shifted to one of keen interest.

Mia explained how she had discovered a clue in Mason's diary that led her to the barn and the chilling note hidden in a small box beneath the hay. She described the note's content, detailing Mason's fear of being followed and stalked, and how it explained his absence from school and his evasive behavior.

"I found this note, and it seems like Mason was in serious danger," Mia said, her voice quivering. "He mentions being watched and threatened by someone he couldn't name. He says he didn't want to involve his parents because they might not believe him."

Detective Jonathan listened attentively. "Can you tell me more about the diary? Did it include any specific details about Mason's situation or his concerns?"

Mia recounted the emotional impact of the diary entries and how they had hinted at Mason's growing anxiety and reluctance to explain his absences. "The diary didn't explicitly name anyone, but it was clear that something was deeply troubling him. He seemed stressed and constantly on edge."

"I understand," Detective Jonathan said. "Based on what you've shared, it's crucial we meet to discuss this further. The information you've provided could be vital in understanding what Mason was dealing with. Can we arrange a time to meet?"

Mia agreed, and they arranged to meet the next day at the detective's office. As the call ended, Mia felt a wave of relief wash over her. The burden of the unknown was beginning to lift, replaced by a glimmer of hope that the truth might finally come to light.

She took a moment to compose herself, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. The barn, with its shadows and silence, seemed less daunting now. As she gathered her things and prepared to leave, she felt ready to head home. The path ahead still held uncertainty, but for the first time in a long while, Mia felt a small, hopeful step toward finding answers and bringing closure to Mason's story.
