The days passed in a seamless blend of schoolwork and laughter for Radhika, Madhav, Revati, and Baladev. They were a tightly-knit group, excelling in both academics and sports, always seen together at school and during lunch breaks. Each day was a new adventure, with their shared experiences cementing their bond.
Madhav had noticed something peculiar about Radhika. She always carried a small diary with her, clutching it tightly and never letting it out of her sight. Whenever she wrote in it, she would quickly shut it if anyone approached. Madhav's curiosity was piqued. What was so private that Radhika had to guard it so closely?
One day, as the bell rang for break time before going to cafeteria, Madhav decided he would finally solve the mystery. He approached Revati and Radhika, trying to sound casual.
"Hey, Revati, Radhika, could you watch my bag for a minute?" Madhav asked. "I've got a bit more money in there today, and I don't want it to get stolen."
Revati glanced at Radhika, who nodded. "Sure, Madhav. We will keep an eye on it. Where are you going?"
"Just to wash my hands," Madhav said, glancing at Baladev, who stood beside him.
Baladev, always up for a bit of mischief, added, "I will go with him."
As Madhav and Baladev headed toward the washroom, Madhav's mind raced. He had to act quickly. When they returned, Revati and Radhika would be away washing their hands. Madhav wanted to make sure he got a good look at that diary.
When they came back in the classroom, Revati and Radhika headed to the washroom, chatting as they walked. Madhav went straight to Radhika's desk. He spotted the diary nestled between her long copies and his heart raced.
"What are you doing, Madhav?" Baladev asked, his voice a mix of curiosity and concern.
Madhav looked up, a glint of determination in his eyes. "I need to see what's in this diary. Keep an eye on the door and make sure nobody comes in."
Baladev raised an eyebrow. "Alright, but only if I get your tiffin in return."
"Deal," Madhav said, not taking his eyes off the diary. He pulled it out and opened it with trembling hands.
The diary's pages were filled with Radhika's neat handwriting, and Madhav began reading. The entries started from last year, chronicling her experiences, dreams, and fears. As he read, his excitement grew, but it soon faded into something more somber.
"Madhav, how's it going?" Baladev whispered, glancing nervously at the door.
Madhav's face was no longer the eager mask it had been. His expression grew serious as he continued reading. "It's... it's a lot more personal than I thought," he said softly. "She's been writing about some difficult things."
Baladev peered over Madhav's shoulder, his curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?"
Madhav took a deep breath and turned to a page with a particularly emotional entry. "Here, look at this. She's talking about feeling left out, about struggles she's had, and some stuff about her family that's really intense."
Baladev's eyes widened as he read a few lines. "Wow. I had no idea Radhika was dealing with all this."
Both Madhav and Baladev became busy in reading the diary and Baladev forgot that he had to keep an eye to the door as his mind was fully occupied with the writings in the diary.
They didn't even notice that Revati and Radhika had already washed their hands and with widened eyes of anger Radhika was standing at the door looking the boys turning the pages of her life stories.
Taking another bite of the sandwich that Madhav brought , Baladev said ," She is a strong girl." and finally his eyes fall on the door .
Seeing Radhika and Revati standing with death glares in their eyes which could kill anyone at that moment , with trembling voice Baladev, "Uhhh... Madhu.. I guess we have to bunk our next class after break."
Madhav engaged with the pain of the author of the diary while reading said , " Why? We don't bunk classes?"
Baladev keeping hand on Madhav's shoulder, " Madhuu ~ my dear Madhu beta ~ take out your mind from that diary and focus on the author of that diary who is standing at the door for you ."
Madhav slowly looked up , first to the wall infront of him then to Radhika standing at the door and Revati standing behind her , who was directing him that then he was dead. This was the first time he saw so much anger in Radhika.
Radhika in her deep angry voice , " Keep that down."
"I SAID KEEP MY DIARY DOWN !!" shouted Radhika and the whole class got silent , focusing on Madhav who was still holding her diary in his hands.
