Keefe's POV:

The sunlight streams through the hospital window, casting soft patterns of light on the walls. It's peaceful—too peaceful for the weight that hangs in the air. I sit beside Sophie's bed, my hand carefully resting over hers. Her fingers are colder than they used to be. I watch her sleep, her face peaceful, yet the paleness of her skin is a constant reminder of how fragile she's become.

The room feels serene, almost like a dream, but I know the reality. Time is slipping away faster than I'm ready for. Sophie stirs, blinking slowly as the light kisses her skin. Her eyes meet mine, and for a moment, it's like everything outside this room fades away. Just her and me, here at this moment.

Her smile is weak, but it's still the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. "Keefe," she whispers, her voice fragile, "I'm so grateful for you. For this. For us."

Sophie and I talk in hushed voices, the air between us thick with emotion. We reflect on everything we've shared—our adventures, the hardships, the moments where we held each other up when the world seemed to be falling apart. I listen as she talks about how much I've changed her life, how she's learned about love, strength, and resilience through me.

"I never knew love like this existed," she says, her eyes fluttering closed for a moment as if to gather strength. "You taught me how to fight for something bigger than myself."

My heart aches as I watch her, my own tears threatening to spill. "I can't imagine a world without you," I admit, my voice shaking. "You gave me a purpose, Sophie. You made me feel like I finally had a reason to fight."

She smiles, weak but warm. "You always had one, Keefe. I just helped you see it."

The conversation is raw, the truth between us laid bare. We talk about our hopes—her dream of living a full life, even if she doesn't have much time left, and my hope that we can make the most of every second we have left together. We don't say it, but we both know the future is uncertain. But there's one thing we're sure of: the love we've built.

Sophie's voice trembles as she speaks her final wish. "I just want you to know... I'll always be with you. In your heart. No matter where I go."

I nod, choking back the lump in my throat. "I'll carry you with me, Sophie. Always."

Sophie's smile is soft but determined as she looks at me, a playful spark in her eyes despite the heaviness of the room. "Keefe," she says, her voice a little raspy, "I think we need to do something fun. Something that'll make me smile."

I raise an eyebrow, half amused, half apprehensive. "Fun, huh?" I glance around the sterile room. "What exactly did you have in mind?"

She grins, weak but genuine. "A game. Something simple, something stupid. I'm not giving up on having a little fun just yet."

I laugh, relieved. "Alright, I've got just the thing."

I reach into my bag and pull out a small board game, one I've kept for moments like this. Sophie's eyes brighten as I set it up on her bedside table. We start playing, and I tease her about every little thing—my moves are exaggerated, my words even more ridiculous than usual. We both know this game doesn't matter. It's the moments, the laughter, the memories.

Sophie, despite her weakening energy, tries to keep things light. Her laugh rings out, fragile but still filled with warmth. She cracks jokes between her moves, her weak chuckles mixing with mine. Even though each laugh feels like it might break us, it also heals us, if only for a little while.
