THE MOONLIGHT SPILT ACROSS THE GENTLE WATER ALONG THE SAND. Mietta Reeves loved the sandy beaches and would spend any moment she could by the water. Ever since her father's death, she was reluctant to leave the seaside. The girl loved as the waves reflected the brightly lit, silver moon. She loved the small splashes and how the waves made her feel calm, like she was in a dream, like her father was still alive.

Mietta had been a mermaid her whole life, her mother was also a mermaid, though her father was just a wizard. Mietta herself was both a witch and a mermaid. She had been going to Hogwarts School for witchcraft and wizardry for two years, and her third year was about to begin.

So there Mietta lay in the sand to dry off, her legs in the form of her shimmery blue-turquoise coloured tail, her father always said the colour of her tail represented the ocean. Mietta was trying not to think of her father, instead, the girl was thinking about her upcoming year at school. As much as she loved Hogwarts, she had no friends, she tended to spend more time hiding in the school's lake or library than actually talking to people. Before she started at the school, she was hesitant to even go, though her father assured her everyone else was different too. Like her father had said, people at the school were different, though she still felt so alone. While at Hogwarts, all Mietta wanted to do was go home, though at home she wanted to be at Hogwarts.

She had many reasons for hating the school, though not many for hating her own home. Home was supposed to be a place that made someone feel most comfortable and supported. For Mietta, she didn't seem to have a home.

Mietta loved her father, and Robert Reeves loved his daughter. Even though Robert wasn't a merman, he went swimming with Mietta when she was a kid, teaching her water safety and watching as she went off alone. Robert would do anything for his daughter, he was always Mietta's biggest supporter. Though Bethany Reeves was almost the opposite. Mietta's mother hated being a mermaid. The woman would rather be slumped up in her house, by the beach, though she wouldn't dare go near the water. Bethany resented her daughter for liking being a mermaid, she resented her for even liking the water. Bethany Reeves and the way she treated her daughter was the pure reason that Mietta never wanted to be home.

The kindness of Robert could never overtake the way Bethany treated their daughter.

As Mietta lay in the dusty sand, the silver-lit moon peered above her, it cast a gentle glow on the girl, which reminded her that she left for school the next day. Mietta patiently waited for her scales to transform into skin, and her tail to transform into legs. While the girl waited, she thought of the upcoming year, Mietta decided to set two goals that had to happen in her third year.

The first goal was that she needed to make friends, or at least one friend. After two long years of loneliness and having no friends, it was getting embarrassing. She no longer would be able to send letters to her father, she realised she needed someone she could confide in and share her thoughts with. Hogwarts was full of witches and wizards, and Mietta was hopeful that she would find at least one person.
