Camilla Scott was a complicated woman. She had a warm and trusting personality, but her eyes told another story. Her bright green eyes that once lite up her face, now had permanent eye bags underneath them.
The patrol officer turned detective had been through a lot during her 28 years on earth. And she was still just getting started.
She had left her hometown, Hershey Pennsylvania, when she was 20 and lived in Texas for a while, where she met her best friends Charlotte Simmons and Edmundo Diaz.
She had friends growing up, but Charlie and Eddie showed her true friendship. They helped her heal. They helped her grow into a woman she was proud to be.
But then Eddie left for his second tour. And things weren't good for a while. Camilla and Charlie were constantly tired, the police academy kicked their asses.
But they soon passed with flying colours, and were the best of their rookie class. They'd set new records with their results.
They'd been cops in Texas for a while, but when Eddie decided to leave Texas for LA, they decided it wasn't a bad idea. So a few months after he left, they packed up their shitty apartment and followed behind him.
Which is how they found themselves at the police station three days after their move.
Before they decided to pack everything up, they had applied for a transfer to the LAPD, and it was accepted within a few days. The LAPD were impressed with the two women.
Camilla had been a detective for three years, and she was damn good at her job. She'd be riding with a patrol officer for the week so she could get used to the area.
Charlie, on the other hand, was staying as a patrol officer. She'd been given a partner and she was more than excited to start this new journey of their lives.
"Did Lils get to school okay?" Charlie broke the silence. "Yeah." Camilla sighed.
Her sister, Liliana, had been with her on her journey from Pennsylvania to Texas, and now the girl had joined her in LA. Not that Camilla would've given her a choice. She needed her sister to be with her, she needed Liliana to be safe.
"Who do you have to meet with?" Charlie asked. The two had already had a meeting with the Chief, they now needed to meet who they'd be riding with. "Sergeant Athena Grant.. how about you?"
"Sergeant Arabella Lopez." Camilla nodded.
"Okay, I'll see you after shift." The two shared a hug. "Good luck!" Charlie shouted before turning to find the changing rooms so she could change into her new uniform.
Camilla was thankful she didn't have to wear the uncomfortable uniform anymore. She had to wear it for a few years in Texas, but after becoming a detective, she could wear whatever she wanted as long as she looked professional.
She was currently wearing a pair of dark blue jeans, paired with a lighter blue shirt and a red leather jacket.
She then went to the desk to collect her badge and gun. "Hi, I'm Detective Scott, I'm here to-" The man at the front desk gave her the stuff, not even making eye contact. "Thank you?"
She clipped her badge and the gun holster onto her belt before a voice made her turn around.
"Sergeant Athena Grant." The woman had a welcoming energy, making her smile. "Detective Camilla Scott." They shook hands.
The two began to walk to Athena's patrol car, Camilla would be getting her own work car after her rides with Athena were over.
"I've heard lots of things about you," Athena said, placing a pair of sunglasses over her eyes. "Good things I hope." She chuckled. "You were quite the detective in Texas." Camilla's cheeks turned a maroon colour, her face going warm. "Let's see if you can keep that reputation here."
The blonde let out a laugh. "Fingers crossed."
Evan "Buck" Buckley had always been searching for his purpose on earth.
He left Hershey at 20-years-old and began to search the world, hoping to find where he belonged.
He didn't for a while.
But when he found himself in LA nearly two years ago, he knew he had finally found where he belonged. Being a firefighter fit him like a glove. It was perfect for him.
Only two things were missing. But he wouldn't get into that.
He found a family here. In the first year of firefighting, he messed around and gotten himself fired. But he'd really worked on himself since then.
And he was almost proud of the man he'd become.
He just wished that she was here to see the new him. But she'd left when he did. He needed to let her go.
And then Maddie came back. He almost had everything he ever wanted. Keyword: almost.
"Hey Buck, add two extra plates for lunch." Buck raised a brow. "Athena is coming for lunch, and she's bringing the new detective she's working with," Bobby said.
"Is she hot?" Buck asked, getting a slap on the back of his head from Hen. "I don't know, she's only been in LA for a week or two, so play nice." He warned. "Sir yes sir," Buck mumbled.
"So.. where are we going?" Camilla asked Athena. The two had spent the morning driving all over LA, giving the woman a tour whilst answering small calls. "For lunch. My partner is a firefighter, so I normally each lunch with them." Camilla nodded.
"Cool, I won't say no to free food." Athena chuckled. "Amen."
As they parked outside the station. Camilla got out of the car, completely missing the jeep they were parked next to. The jeep that she'd nearly run away in.
The two cops walked into the building and were greeted by Athena's partner. "I'm Bobby, it's nice to meet you." She shook his hand, a warm smile on her face. "Camilla Scott." His eyes widened at the name, but she didn't catch it, instead, her eyes drifted to a man standing outside of the changing rooms.
"Edmundo?" She said, making Bobby's head snap over to her. "You know Eddie?" She nodded before running over to the man.
"Edmundo Ramon Diaz!" She exclaimed, catching the man's attention. "Cam?" He said before a wide grin spread over his face, his eyes crinkling.
The two hugged tightly, Eddie lifting her off the ground, a squeal leaving her lips.
"What is the Detective Scott doing in LA? Did Charlie come with you? Is Lili okay?" He asked after they parted. "Hey, we only saw each other two months ago, calm down." He smiled apologetically. "Yes, Charlie's here. And yes Lili's fine, annoying but fine." He chuckled.
"How's Chris doing? Does he like LA?" They began walking up the stairs to the loft, where Bobby and Athena were also headed.
"Well, apart from the fact there was an earthquake during our second week here, he's loving it." She smiled. "Awh, that's great, you'll have to come over tonight. Charlie will freak when she sees you."
Camilla stopped dead in her tracks when she heard a plate hit the floor and shatter.
And that was when she saw him.
