Chapter 83. Death Trap

- Earlier, Adaine's ship -

Adaine held Wataru as the ship soared miles away from the nuked city. Lying next to them was Muramasa now with a bandage wrapped around his head.

Sitting next to the unconscious pilot was Nick, going through his phone and calling all his contacts, with little success.

Wataru thought of his parents, and his cousins. He thought of Teruo and his family. He thought of his neighbors and his pilot friends. He just sat there next to Adaine, falling into a pit of despair.

Adaine grabbed his hand and raised his head, "Hey."

Wataru stared off into nothing, dwelling on the dead. He responded, "Yes?"

"What's the course of action now?" Adaine asked him, leading him to shrug with little enthusiasm.

"Wataru?" Adaine leaned forward, "What should we do?"

"Why are you asking me?" Wataru looked to Nick, "Ask him... because I'm done."

"Done? You can't be done!" Adaine grabbed his shoulder, "We need to-"

"Adaine! I don't want to fight anymore!" Wataru yelled before grabbing her device, "Use this thing to take me home! I want to be with my family!"

"What about Jay and -"

"I don't want to have to deal with this nightmare anymore!" Wataru looked her in the eye, "More experienced people than I have already died! What am I going to do with no jaeger? What plan could I come up with that would be any better than what you or him come up with?!" He gestured to Nick again.

The doctor got up, his eyes almost widening as someone finally picked up his call, "Sir! Sir we need... hello?" He looked at the phone, "I can't get ahold of anyone. All my friends are not picking up my calls. I can't get a connection."

"Who are you trying to call?" Adaine asked.

"Anyone! Anyone who can help us or tell us what to do or where to go," Nicks voice cracked, letting fear escape through his nonchalant tone.

"You are scared," Adaine mentioned.

"It's okay to be scared," Nick spat back, "I'm terrified. I just saw good people die by the power of that thing out there... and that glow... I saw that glow from Godzilla and Kiryu. Almost angelic. Like I was seeing the gates of heaven opening up."

"I was going to say you have every right to be afraid," Adaine pulled her device out of Wataru's hands, "All of us didn't expect this war to turn out this way."

"This isn't a war, not anymore!" Wataru grabbed the device, "It's a slaughter! There is no winning anymore! There's only surviving...."

Adaine put her hand to Wataru's chest while holding the device out of his reach.

Wataru pushed but was held back while she just stared at him, "Wataru, we have to think about our next move."

"I don't care!" Wataru held his eyes as he started to cry, "I just want this all to be over with... I want to go home.... I want to go home before we all die."

Adaine knelt back until she was sitting in front of the pilot, "I understand-" before she could continue, Nicks phone rang.

The doctor instantly answered, "Hello?! .... Audrey?! Audrey, oh my god?! Where are you?! Are you safe?"

The doctor covered his mouth as he let out a shaky laugh, "Sorry, I'm just excited to know you are alright... what?" Nick looked to Adaine and Wataru, "What are you talking about?"

"What's going on?" Adaine mouthed to him.

The doctor put his phone on speaker, allowing the others to hear a panicking woman, "The world governments are in hysteria! Recently all the titans emerged from their resting places. Someone mentioned that some kind of distress call woke them all up. Now every Titan is heading to America, and the ones already in America, are heading to Denver Colorado! From what I've seen, the titans are rushing over there. Moving fast to that sp"
