The girls looked up to see a guy their age climbing down the tree house or.. fort.

"Are you both alright?" He chuckles. As he set his foot on the ground and helped Astrid with the bike, a book in his hand.

Y/n got herself up on her own two feet and took the leaves off her clothes with her not bruised arm.

"I'll live. My friend here on the other hand got her arm bruised thanks to her Idiocracy." Astrid replied.

"Well it's either my arm or your face." Y/n replied as she examine her arm. She then faced the boy. "Got any cold compress and pain killers, dude?"

"I.. think i got some ice inside the house." He replied a bit hesitant.

"What are you reading?" Astrid then asked the boy as she noticed the book in his hand.

"Uh.. crimes and punishment." He replied showing off the book cover.

"One of those."

"One of those? What's that mean?"

"Nothing. I've read it three times." Astrid told the boy.

"You, really?" He replied, intrigued.

"Yeah. Pain and suffering is always inevitable." The young Deetz quoted.

"Yes, that's.. right.. I can't believe you're quoting Dostoevsky. Where have you been in my life?"

Astrid then chuckles along with the boy.

Y/n who was still besides the young Deetz just looked back and forth between the two as she held her arm.

Somehow something within her grew with an emotion she could not pin point.

Y/n then cleared her throat. "Uhm.. I still need the ice?"

"Ri-right! Right.. uh... You both can wait on the tree fort I'll just... Fetch the ice."

"Thanks." Y/n replied with a hint of annoyance.

"Okay, yeah." Astrid nodded and leaned the bike on the tree they have crashed on.

The two girls then climb up and reached the floor of the fort.

"He seems cute." Astrid says as she help Y/n with the last steps up.

The boy seems to caught Astrid's interest.

"Cute? Yeah, i guess cute for a very much low self-esteemed, stuttering, nervous wreck boy." Y/n replies as she finished climbing up the tree.

"Right. I sometimes forget you're a woman hating man." Astrid chuckles accidentally hitting Y/n's bad arm, earning a painful shriek.

"Fuck. Careful!"

"Sorry."

The girls then learned the name his name was Jeremy. Astrid sat on the ledge of tree fort and Jeremy soon followed besides her.

With no room left next to Astrid, Y/n sat on the windowsill. She held the ice pack on the now purple bruise on her arm as she looks at Astrid and Jeremy getting all close to one another.

"So how long have you been here in Winter River?" Astrid strikes up a conversation with the raven hair boy.

"My whole life? I've never see you around her before." He answered truthfully- maybe.

"Yeah, this is just a temporary lay over for my grandpa's funeral; and also my mom's jinky fiance turned it into a defacto engagement party. Yeah he announced their wedding date." Astrid ranted to Jeremy.

This slightly annoyed Y/n. She was Astrid's friend. But then, again a new set of ears could help Astrid.

"Wow, that's different."

"Oh yeah. If you know my mom it's definitely outbrand for her."

"Is your dad.. in the picture or..?"

Astrid stayed silent and just shook her head 'no'.

"Yeah, he was a free spirit. Defender of all hopeless causes. When they split, he went to Brazil. Tried to save the rainforest."

"But my mom grew up here. That old house on the hill."

"Wait the ghost house? Is your mom Lydia Deetz?" Jeremy seems taken aback with this new information.

"Unfortunately."

"She's a legend."

"Well yeah, if you believe in supernatural bullshit."

"You don't?"

"No. I believe in what i see. Y'know, Science.. facts." Astrid then scoffed as she heard her phone buzz. To no surprise it was her mom.

"Oh." Jeremy seems surprised with how much Lydia was texting her daughter.

"Yeah, it's gonna keep going. Back to the insanity."

"I'm sorry about your fence by the way. You can tell your parents my mom will pay for that."

"No, it's okay.. They won't even notice.. Uhh.. Listen, I'll be here, tomorrow. If you wanna... Break from insanity." Jeremy offered.

Astrid nodded with a small smile and Y/n couldn't stay silent anymore.

"No, need. She got me already." The h/c girl said. A hint of possessiveness in her tone of voice.

"Thanks for the ice, i guess." She mutters before climbing down.

The young Deetz followed her friend with a apologetic look to her new friend.

This time, Y/n took the front of the bike. She waited patiently for Astrid to get on the said bike before paddling away in silence.
