Diary Entry Number 15
Name: Izuku Midoriya
Age: 7
Tonight's the night. I'm going to escape. I've written a letter for my dormmates to find in the morning because I won't be here. I'll be free. For the first time in three years. It's been a year since my last attempt at escape, and by now I'm back in the same dorm as Vinayak, Andrea, and Catharina. I'm currently writing at quarter to six at night. I've got some sloppy sandwiches from the cafeteria, saved from lunch in my bag, a stack of cash I may or may not have taken from Mrs Crook. Not my fault she left her wallet by the office unattended. She didn't even notice! She deserved it anyway. I've got a rubber band and pebbles; just in case I don't manage to shut down the cameras. Next time I write will be when I've made it somewhere safe as a first stop to Home.
Till then.
Izuku Midoriya slid his diary into his bag and hopped off his bunkbed. When he stood to steady himself, he was met with the shocked eyes of Catharina. She spoke in a soft whisper, holding her pillow close to her body.
"Izuku... I thought... I thought we stopped trying..." Her white hair, which had finally grown back to its former glory, fell over her eyes as she looked down at the boy. He felt guilty and clutched the straps of his bag tightly. Izuku looked at the floor, not able to face the eyes of the person who had served as a mother figure for him these last few dreadful years.
"I'm sorry... really, really sorry... Catharina... but... I can't live like this... I want freedom... we can't possibly be cared for worse out there than we are here..." The Japanese boy expected something more from Catharina. A lecture, a raised voice, maybe even a stern talking to convince him to get back to sleep. But not for her to offer him her coat. The Dutch girl held it out to him, wearing a look of understanding.
"Wave to us when you get into U.A..." She whispered; her voice as soft as ever. She knew his goal. He always spoke about a school for Heros during his first year there. Even if she couldn't understand most of what he said, due to it being broken English and Japanese, she could tell it would mean the world if he made it in. Izuku was shocked, to say the least. However, he took the jacket into his small hands. It was clearly too big for him, but he'll keep it nonetheless. The green haired child bowed, before giving into the urge to hug his Dutch friend.
"I'll tell everyone of what this place is like... I'll save everyone!" He said while pulling back. Catharina smiled sadly, tears welling in her eyes. She held up a hand.
"Pinky promise...?" Her voice was shaky, and Izuku felt his eyes well too. He wrapped his pinky around hers.
"Pinky promise!"
With that, and a final hug, he began his journey to new world, starting in the vents. Izuku climbed up the knives stuck into the vents, before crawling on his stomach forward for 7 grates. He stopped above the CCTV room and threw his bag to the other side of the grate. He opened it, pulling out a long rope of fabric he made from bed sheets. The boy watched the clock tick, and when it struck 6 pm, the staff inside went to end her shift. He now had 5 minutes to get in and out. Izuku pulled the grate up and pushed it under his bag, then proceeded to tie the makeshift rope to the grate. He threw it down before jumping silently onto the chair.
He spun himself around to face the cameras, making sure that the ones on the outer wall were also in this room. He had discovered a second CCTV room in Sector 7, so he needed to make sure this one had the right cameras. When he did, the green haired boy pressed the array of buttons in an order he had memorised for the last year, then climbed the rope back up into the vent. He pulled the rope up and untied it, but didn't put it in his bag as it would be unnecessary weight to carry around, instead leaving it flat in the vent and put the grate back in place. He crawled once more, slinging his backpack on once more as the boy made his way to the cafeteria, took a right and opened the vent to the outside.
