Sonya was in her bedroom while the TV played an old movie, but she wasn't focused on it at all. After Hazel left for the night, everyone went to bed and Sonya sat by herself under a blanket trying to keep her mind off what Hazel told them. She was rejected by Darius and it wasn't in her will to fight for what they could have between each other.
Sonya wondered what would have happened if Axe decided differently too. What if he had chosen to deny the bond simply because Sonya was human? It wouldn't matter to her since she wouldn't have been able to feel it without a wolf of her own. However, her heart ached at every moment she thought of not being able to have Axe all to herself. She loved him with every ounce of strength in her. So, it wasn't possible for Sonya to be with anyone else but him.
Fate brought them together, she thought with a smile. Otherwise, how else would she explain finding him in a club amongst hundreds of people. She travelled from across the world and made her home in this country where everything was foreign to her. Yet, she met Angela and they built a life together but both of them were empty and longed to make a new future for themselves. She just never thought that the one that could give her a new life was Axe Luciano.
Sonya glanced at the clock above the TV and it told her that it was inching close to midnight, but Axe hadn't return from work.
She got up from the couch and folded the blanket before neatly placing it on the side. She crossed the lounge room and looked over at the bed, but she didn't want to sleep without him.
Leaving the bedroom, she crossed the hallway and saw that the lights were turned off around the house. She glanced at the kitchen which was empty.
"Madam-"
Sonya gasped almost letting out a scream. "Scar!" she astonished. "You have to stop sneaking up on me."
"My apologies," Scar bowed. "Can I get you anything? Food or perhaps a cup of chai."
"No, thanks," Sonya smiled. "Do you know where Axe is?"
Scar's purple eyes looked back in the dark. "He is in the security room downstairs," she told her as she pointed at the door under the stairs.
Sonya's smile broadened. "Thanks," she said as she made her way over.
"It's the third door on your left," Scar informed.
Sonya opened the door and saw a staircase appear that was made from concrete alone. The light pods above her head lit up and showed her the path. She left the door open behind her and trailed down into the cold basement, that made her feel like it was winter already. Just when she reached the final steps, she heard voices. Following Scar's instructions, she counted up to the third door on the left, it was the only one left open and she didn't need to look inside to know that Axe was there, because she heard his domineering tone. She instantly felt the smile on her lips as she heard him ordering someone around.
She peered around the door into the large room that was surrounded by computers and guards that carried weapons. She noticed that standing around a square table was Detective Reyes, Wade and Darius with a few other people she didn't recognize.
But then her eyes landed on Axe who stood squarely with his muscular arms crossed over his chest and his boots planted on the ground. The man was in black cargo pants that were tucked into the boots and his dark-grey t-shirt clung to every part of his chiselled torso and abdomen. The tattoos on his arms and neck were exposed making her lose her breath.
