. .I had moved in with Chop-Top and his family ages ago. Their strange ways of living never bothered me. I even started to get used to the violence that went on in the home.
Today was just a normal day for the Sawyers. A group of people came onto their property, and the family couldn't let them go.
I was upstairs in our bedroom, sitting on the bed. It wasn't the most comfortable, and it even had a few springs breaking out of it, but it was home. I'm willing to deal with anything just to stay here.
I was humming to myself as I drew with crayons on some paper. It was a childish activity but a fun one at that. I used a bright yellow to draw sunflowers, obviously inspired by the ones all around the farmhouse. I then used a brown for the middle and to shade out the yellow.
After I was done with that, I grabbed a green, looking down at it for a moment longer than I needed to. Was this the right shade? It's bright, but flowers are bright, right?
I eventually decided just to make sure. There was an easy way to see the flowers just outside the back window. Sure, they were far, but I could still see the color just fine.
I got up from the floor and looked out the window, examining the flowers from the back of the house.
"Darker green." I mumbled to myself before movement caught my eye. I looked down further to see someone I've never seen before. It was a girl who was picking the lock on the back gate just outside of the house. She won't be able to get out straight from that, but she could if no one notices her in time.
I moved fast, going away from the window and to the top of the stairs to alert the family.
"She's outside! One of them is outside." I called out, my voice ringing through the house.
"Outside?" A voice called back to me. I recognized it as Drayton. The cook and, quite frankly, the bossiest member of the family. "Those damn kids. You go out there and get em!"
I heard him yelling at someone. I went down the stairs quickly, each step squeaking under my feet. Once I got to the bottom, I could see Chop-Top going outside. I can assume that's who Drayton was yelling at.
"Now, sugar, you should go back upstairs." A calmer and much gentler voice came from my left side as hands were placed lightly on my shoulders.
"I'll go back up, Nancy." I responded. "I just want to make sure."
I stood inside, looking out all the large windows to see the girl on the back gate. Chop-Top had run out there with a wide smile on his face. It was exciting to chase.
Once he got closer, I watched him slash his knife, cutting the girl all over before she fell down a well. She's most likely still alive, but at least she's off the gate.
I was about to turn around and go back up the stairs but stopped when I saw another pop out of a bush. This girl was different. She held a makeshift weapon made out of bones.
"Bubba, go get er!" Nancy ordered as a loud chainsaw went buzzing by outside.
The victim thrusted the bone scrap down and onto Chop-Tops' shoulder, making him fall forward from the stab. I gasped as my hands went over my mouth.
Bubba went right around the fence with the chainsaw raised high in the air. He brought it down on the victim, landing a life ending hit.
Nancy shielded my eyes from the scene even though I could hear the loud screaming coming from the girl before complete silence.
"Chop-Top?" I mumbled once Nancy let go of me. The victim was dead beside Chop-Top, who held his shoulder. I went outside, rushing around the small fence, past Bubba, and to his side.
"Oh! Hehe, you came down to see me." He greeted cheerfully as if he wasn't just stabbed.
"Are you okay?" I asked, pure concern showing across my face.
"I'm fine. I'm fine." He stood up fully, a wide grin on his lips.
"You got stabbed." I said while crossing my arms, not accepting his answer.
"It- it ain't nothin' darlin'. I ain't even feel a thing." He said with a laugh as if it was all a joke.
"Get upstairs." My hands were moved to my hips as I bossed him around. I made sure he went inside the house and up the stairs.
"B-brother! She sure got you!" Nubbins appeared. He was his normal jittery self, just like his twin.
"Bubba!" Chop-Top jumped like a child at the thought of what happened. "Bubba got her better."
"Come on. Nubbins, there's one down the well. Go get her." I ordered, watching nubbins skitter down the stairs to catch the last victim.
I brought Chop-Top into the bathroom, making him sit down on the edge of the bathtub with his legs inside it.
"It don't hurt, honey. I promise." He cooed at me.
"Hurt or not, it still needs to be cleaned."
"Oh." He whined, throwing his arms across himself like a pouting child. "I wanted a cool scar."
"I'm sure you'll still get a scar from this." I said, unable to help the giggle that escaped my lips. "Now, sit still."
I poured some antiseptic on the wound, earning a wince from Chop-Top. After it was cleaned, I had to get out a needle and thread to stitch up the wound.
He was jittery and couldn't stop moving for the life of him in front of me. Occasionally giggling over completely nothing.
"Stay still. I need to stitch this." I complained, trying to keep a steady hand.
"I am. I am." He said while not staying still at all. It's like he couldn't stay still, even when it was important.
I eventually finished up the stitches. It wasn't my best work, but it wasn't awful. I finished it all off by putting a large bandage over the wound.
"All done." I said while backing up from him, cleaning off my hands.
"Y- you're the best!" He got up to his feet immediately. "Now I gotta catch the last one."
"I already sent your brother after him."
"I- I wanna do it." He pouted like a puppy.
"Fine, but don't get stabbed again." I said while stepping to the side, letting him out of the bathroom.
"Yes! Thank you!" He cheered, giving my a quick kiss on the cheek before rushing out and down to help his brother hunt.
