Jayce and Ava exchanged a final, knowing glance before stepping out of the cave's protective shadows. The scene that greeted them was surreal – a tableau that defied their wildest expectations. The massive Giganotosaurus, its scales gleaming in the fading light, stood unnaturally still. Its eyes, once filled with primal fury, now seemed glazed and unfocused.
Surrounding the docile beast was a team of heavily armed individuals, their sleek, high-tech gear a stark contrast to the primordial setting. Each wore a matte black uniform adorned with an unfamiliar insignia, and carried weapons that looked more at home in a science fiction movie than a world where humans and dinosaurs coexisted.
And there, standing calmly at the center of it all, was Dr. Sullivan. His pristine, clean uniform seemed out of place amidst the armed personnel and chaos all around, yet he exuded an air of authority that was palpable even from a distance.
As Jayce and Ava cautiously approached, they could hear the low hum of energy fields – the source of the Giganotosaurus's docility, they presumed. The air crackled with an unseen tension, a mixture of advanced technology and primal energy that set their nerves on edge.
"Mr. Hayes, Ms. Rossi," Sullivan called out, his voice carrying a warmth that didn't quite reach his eyes. "I'm relieved to see you both unharmed."
As they approached, Jayce's muscles tensed, ready for action. Ava's hand unconsciously tightened around her tablet, safeguarding the invaluable data they'd collected.
"Dr. Sullivan," Jayce acknowledged, his tone carefully neutral. "This is quite the welcoming committee. Care to explain how you managed to subdue a rampaging Giganotosaurus?"
Sullivan's smile was placid, almost rehearsed. "Advanced containment technology, Mr. Hayes. But that's hardly the most pressing matter at hand, is it?" His gaze swept over them, probing. "I'm more interested in what you two have discovered in there."
Ava stepped forward, her curiosity warring with caution. "We've found evidence of an ancient civilization, Dr. Sullivan. One with technology far beyond what we'd expect for its time period."
"Fascinating," Sullivan murmured, his eyes glinting with interest. "And I suspect there's more to it than that, isn't there?"
Jayce intervened, his patience wearing thin. "Before we go any further, I think it's time you level with us, Sullivan. What's really going on here? Since when do you have a private army at your disposal?"
Sullivan's composure slipped for just a moment, a flicker of frustration crossing his features. "Mr. Hayes, I assure you, we're all on the same side here. My team and I have been tracking unusual phenomena in this area for some time. What's happening here in the park? It could be just the beginning of something much larger."
Ava's eyes widened. "You mean there might be other sites?"
Sullivan hesitated, his gaze sharpening. "Other sites? What exactly do you mean by that, Ms. Rossi?"
Jayce scoffed. "Don't play coy. Next you'll be saying that you're here to save us all from this unknown threat, right?"
Sullivan's eyes hardened. "Mock if you must, Mr. Hayes, but the stakes here are higher than you can imagine. We need to understand and contain whatever is happening here before it spreads."
Ava stepped in, her voice calm but firm. "We've actually managed to piece together some information that suggests this might not be an isolated incident." She pulled up a simplified version of her map on her tablet, careful to omit certain crucial details. "We believe there might be other locations experiencing similar phenomena to what we've seen here."
Sullivan's eyebrows rose, genuine surprise coloring his features. "Impressive work, Ms. Rossi. This... this changes everything. If what you're suggesting is true, then the scope of this situation is far greater than we initially thought. We need to understand the full picture of what we're dealing with."
