Chapter 42: Fractured Certainty
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅

Y/N's POV

Everything was moving too fast. I couldn’t process the officer’s words as they echoed in my mind. Arrest me? My throat tightened, and for a second, I couldn’t breathe. I felt as if the ground had disappeared beneath me, my mind flashing back to the warnings in the dairy how the blame always came back to Isabella, no matter what she had tried to  change her fate.

Officer Jungkook stood before me, papers in hand, his face serious and resolute. He didn’t seem like someone who would be swayed by emotions or the truth I was clinging to. I couldn’t help but think, Is this my end? Execution, death… all the horrific scenarios played out in my mind. My body began to shake as I found myself unable to respond.

"Officer, what is the meaning of this?" Hyunjin’s voice cut through the fog of my thoughts. He stepped forward, positioning himself between me and the officer. His voice was calm but firm, protective.

Jungkook held up a contract, his expression tight. “This was found in the Seo brothers' estate after we conducted a thorough search. It’s a contract outlining their agreement with someone… someone who orchestrated everything that has happened. And that someone appears to be Isabella.” He unfolded the document, pointing to my name. “Her signature is right here.”

A wave of disbelief swept through the room. I stood frozen as everyone’s eyes turned to me, shock mirrored in their faces. My head was spinning, my thoughts racing. That’s how the story was supposed to go with the SEO brothers actions solely based on Isabella's manipulation but in my case I never signed any contract with them. It was like a nightmare—the plot of the novel had caught up to me, twisting reality into a terrifying version of itself.

Seungmin’s gaze narrowed, his voice low and suspicious. “Is that true, Isabella? Did you sign this?”

I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out. My throat was too dry, and fear paralyzed me. I shook my head, trying to form words, but they stuck in my throat. “N-no… I didn’t…” I managed to stammer, but the words were weak, feeble against the weight of the accusation.

Hyunjin stepped in front of me, his voice growing more determined. “That’s impossible. Isabella would never do something like this.”

Jungkook arched an eyebrow. “And how can you be so sure, Hyunjin?”

Hyunjin took a deep breath, his eyes locking onto the officer’s. “Because on the day this contract was supposedly signed, Isabella was with us the entire day. I remember clearly—it was the day we were preparing for the ball. She was helping us all day, and if you’re thinking maybe she could’ve snuck out that night, I know for a fact she didn’t. She, Eliza, and Jasmine had a sleepover that night.”

Jeongin nodded in agreement, stepping up beside Hyunjin. “He’s right. Isabella was with us. There’s no way she signed that contract.”

Felix, who had been silent until now, spoke up as well. “I was there too. She was with us all day. This contract must be forged.”

The officer hesitated, his eyes scanning the faces of the group. He seemed to be weighing their words against the evidence. For a moment, the tension in the room was suffocating. Then, with a sigh, Jungkook lowered the document slightly.

“We’ll need to bring her in for questioning anyway,” he said, though his voice was softer now, less accusatory. “But… we’ll look into this further.”
