Chapter 21

Percy POV

The whole hallway went silent as Pandora's voice carried into the crowd. I swallowed, Pandora was mortal, and she should be dead. After we closed the doors of death and defeated Gaea, we shouldn't have had this problem anymore.

Kids began to whisper behind us as the information settled. Many voices were disbelieving, and I remembered a time when a mortal who lived two-thousand years ago would have been an impossible thought for me too. Other voices were angry or afraid, those who had heard the myth and were mad at Pandora for releasing all those evils. (On a side note, Annabeth would want me to tell you, and I agree, that it wasn't Pandora's fault. She was 'cursed' with curiosity as a punishment for the human race. Her whole story was a trap and it wasn't her fault. Just saying.) And some kids were confused, those few who hadn't heard of Pandora at all.

Me, I was just thinking about the jar I had been given during the Titan war. Pandora's Jar, I remembered, with just hope inside. Swallowing down my fear, I took my pen out of my pocket and crept towards the cabinet behind the girls. Jason tried to come up to help me, but Annabeth waved him back as she pulled Hermione and Pandora away from the cabinet.

"If something jumps out and we're all gathered around it," she explained in a hushed voice, "then it could take us all out in one attack." 

I prepared myself to open the door. A quick glance behind me showed McGonagall about to tell me that she would do it to keep me out of danger, but Chiron was watching me warily with his bow drawn. I waited for him to tell me not to open it, but he nodded, and I was filled with pride that he trusted me so much. Then I noticed Annabeth walking towards me.

"I thought you said only one person should be here." I was very confused.

"Yeah, so, you better back up." She explained, brandishing her sword.

"No, I'm doing it."

"I'm not letting you risk yourself."

"I'm not letting you risk yourself either. Please, I promise I won't die." 

"Risky promise, Seaweed Brain," She sighed, giving in. She backed up slowly.

Taking a breath, I turned back to the cabinet. Quickly, I yanked the door open. It wasn't locked, and the hinges made no noise. Inside, there was one shelf, and sitting on it, was something I had seen once before.

Pandora's Jar.

It looked exactly the same as when I had last seen it except for one thing; it wasn't empty. I don't know how I could tell, I could just sense things inside. Horrible, awful things and one little flutter of good; Hope.

"It's true," Chiron stated grimly.

"Is that..?" Jason asked

"Pandora's Jar. She's the real Pandora." Annabeth confirmed. Hermione put a hand on the girl we then knew as Pandora's shoulder.

"Of coarse I'm real, why is that surprising? And what is this jar of mine? What's inside?" She asked, sounding completely innocent. Did she remember opening it the last time and living before?

McGonagall turned from me to look at Chiron. "Mr. Brunner we need to have a talk about what is going on in my school."

He nodded his head, "In your office, I'll explain. My students," He turned to us, "Why don't you take Pandora here up to your rooms before..." He trailed off, looking at the crowd of students who were finally shaking off their shock.

"You guys better come," Annabeth sighed, looking at our wizard friends, "And you." She looked at Draco and Luna.

"Wait, they can't come into the Gryffindor tower," Harry objected.

I grinned mischievously despite the situation, "That's not the only way in." Chiron grabbed Pandora's jar like was a gernade that could explode at any second and clopped out with McGonagall on his hooves. "Let's go." I suggested, and our group pushed through the confused crowd of students.

"But what's going on? Where am I?" I heard Pandora asking behind us.

"Umm, we'll explain later. It's gonna be fine," Hazel was reassuring softly. 

I hope it is, I think. Outside of the castle, I could hear thunder and rain.

A storm had started, and I had a feeling Zeus had nothing to do with this one.
