post high school graduation"3...2...1!"
you and kageyama counted down almost simultaneously as he turned the key open to your new apartment door. you guys walked in together, scanning the unfurnished rooms and blank walls in complete awe.
"i can't believe this is all ours, tobio." you began to get emotional, the happiest tears threatening to flow from your eyes as you closed the door. it was all starting to get so real...you were finally moving in with the love of your life and though this wasn't much, you were endlessly grateful for who you were sharing this moment with. "i absolutely love it. i can't wait to decorate!"
it was incredibly rare to see kageyama this vulnerable as the two of you made eye contact. the two of you were feeling the exact same emotions and there was no doubting that when he gave you the tiniest grin with teary eyes. "i'm so happy, y/n. we made it."
smiling with his comment, the two of you ended up with your shoes off and laying down on the bare carpet floor. the two of you stared up at the ceiling, still in shock about how this was going to be the start of your new, amazing future.
you and kageyama graduated high school and he decided to further pursue his volleyball career, going on to play for the japan's national team. you knew that there was absolutely no way you'd be able to handle long distance, so you knew the only solution was to leave home and go along with him.
you didn't second guess it for a second. kageyama was your person for life. you worked extra hard after graduation, picking up two jobs back home as soon as you turned eighteen to save up for a place. running around in a cafe making lattes and cappuccinos then going to fold clothes at your retail job afterwards wasnt for the week.
same thing for kageyama, if he wasnt practicing volleyball or with you, he was clocked in and working at a nearby convenience store.
sacrificing time with eachother was hard in the moment, but sitting next to the love of your life in this empty apartment that the two of you had worked so endlessly hard for made it all so worth it in the end.
"y/n." he continued to stare up at the ceiling. "i wouldn't trade this for anything."
"i know." you couldn't help but smile, turning over to face him. "and to think this all happened after a day at the skate park..."
"are you actually crying, y/n?"
the emotional atmosphere was too overwhelming that it brought you to tears. instantly, you felt kageyama roll over to wrap his cold arms around you. basically on top of you at this point, he used his hands to wipe tears away from your cheeks.
"what if you didn't step out in front of me like an idiot?" he carried on because he knew you were too engulfed in your feelings to continue what you were saying. "or if you didn't fight to be in my life...i just can't imagine y/n. that's what i admire about you."
"huh?"
"that you fight for what you want. you fought to be my friend. you fought to learn how to skateboard, and didn't even give up after being injured. you fought to afford this apartment with me, and im truly just so happy—"
"stop, stop—" you tucked your face into the crook of his neck, soaking his shirt with your sobbing tears out of complete and utter happiness. "i admire how you overanalyze things and just make me feel so special. you notice things about myself that i dont even notice."
"ill take that as a compliment." kageyama laughed. "but enough crying, look at me."
you lifted your head and made eye contact with kageyama. the close proximity between the two of you never failed to give you butterflies despite how long you've been together.
