astrids pov
im currently in english class, hands typing groggily on a paper due in a couple of weeks. our teacher rattled on about the assignment, but my head was clogged with other things. more pressing matters.
my head shot up upon hearing the nasal voice of a woman from the speakers.
"would astrid and peter please come down to the main office," she spoke monotonously before the line cut dead.
i stood up without waiting for the teachers affirmation. waving a quick goodbye to the class, who were likely playing video games on their computers, i made my way out the room. who knows why i'm in the principals today? i'm more curious of why peter is here.
i threw open the door of the principals office and sat beside peter, who was nervously fidgeting with his thumbs.
"do you know why you're here?" the man behind the desk asked. as someone trained to read people, i could see the faintest slimmer of pride behind his dark eyes.
"no," peter said. i didn't say anything. merely watched the teacher as he began to explain to us what was happening.
"you two have been accepted into STARK industries!" he smiled, throwing his arms in the air. (i forgot if peter took the test lol but we just pretend he did)
i watched peter light up at this information, where i just sat, thinking. no way victor would let me do this. perhaps if it made money...
"does it pay?" i asked. peter gave me a side glance before shrugging his shoulders to himself."yes. you two will help to develop STARKS technology after school everyday from 4-7. you're paid 30 dollars hourly."
i hummed to myself in contempt. pay's not bad. i'll have to propose it to victor.
"how do we sign up?" peter asked. i leaned in slightly, prepared to take note of the answer.
the principal reached behind him to grab a couple of permission slips.
"just have your legal guardian sign these. you guys are truly doing wonders for this school. what great representation!" he beamed. i suppressed the urge to roll my eyes.
"when are they due?" i asked, skimming through the words on the fresh paper.
"ideally tommorow. you can start the day after."
we nodded understandably. "can we go?"
the principal looked at the clock. it was already 3:15.
"you guys can just leave," he said, handing us passes and ushering us out the door. "you deserve more for shining such a light on our school!"
seemingly, he supported us for selfish reasons. i didn't care. this would be good for peter. besides being spider-man, the poor boy had little social life.
"cmon," i told him, practically running out the door to get my backpack and leave this wretched school.
"coming, coming," he hurried, picking him himself out or his chair and bidding goodbye to the principal.
seven hours earlier- natasha's pov
"get down here you guys," tony called to clint and i. i didn't rush down. he could wait.
a couple minutes, i arrived at his door to see barton got here at the same time.
"what are you waiting for?" tony asked incredulously, as he sorted through a daunting stack of papers.
we promptly walked into the room, ignoring our own tardiness.
"what do you want?" clint asked, eying the papers reproachfully.
"i need you to help me sort through these papers for new interns. i need two."
"you want US to do it?" clint asked disdainfully.
"i pay."
clint's eyes brightened. "how much we talking about?"
"250 for both of you if you find me two interns."
"you're a billionaire. more."
"300."
i looked at him, sending him a scary look which has grown men peeing their pants. "500."
he visibly gulped and nodded. i smiled triumphantly and began sorting through the papers. clint raised his hand to fist bump me, which i did. tony left the room defeated.
after a couple of hours of searching we had found two excellent options. both were young, one a girl who was 15, the other a boy, 16. the girl got 105% on the test, and the boy got 100%. these kind of scores were undeniably good. i think the original high score was only 80%.
the girl and the boy looked nice. the girl had light, almost blond hair, with a scattering of freckles on her button nose, and dark brown eyes. she smiled genuinely, in the photo surrounded by her family. two kids who looked a bit older than her. must have cut the parents from the photo.
the boy looked good too. he had brown hair tumbling on his head, kind brown eyes, and a warm smile. they were perfect.
