Evermore

My eyes followed Holiday Collection’s car as she drove off with my sister as her hostage. I was good at staying calm in high pressure situations but this was different. My sister was with a mentally unstable woman and I had no idea what she planned on doing with her.

“We should chase after her.” 1989’s voice drew my attention away from the window and back to the shroud of darkness behind me, the torches on our phones the only source of light.

“She's probably far gone by now.”

“What do we do then? We can't just wait here. We need to do something!”

“Just let me think.” I closed my eyes trying to focus and come up with a plan while Debut and Lover kept talking.

“What if she kills them?”

“Debut, don't say that.”

“You can't tell me that you know she won't do it. She tried to kill Speak Now. She threatened to do it to Folklore.”

They weren't helping the situation at all. I needed silence to think clearly. “Listen, we need to stay level headed. We can't afford to lose focus. Do any of you have any ideas where she could be keeping Fearless? Anywhere she liked going in the past or places you've been to with her?”

“No.” Debut answered me with an exasperated tone in her voice.

A phone beep drew my attention to Reputation.

“I have service.”

“Call 911.”

A realisation hit me while Lover told Reputation to call 911. If there was service I could track Folklore. I just had to hope that she still had her phone on her and that Holiday Collection didn't think to get rid of it.

A voice came out of Reputation’s phone. “911, your call will be attended to shortly. Due to a large volume of callers, you have been placed on hold. There are currently 78 callers ahead of you.”

“Oh you're fucking useless!”

“That's not important.” I waved off Reputation. “I can track Folklore using her phone. I think she still had it on her.” I looked at the map on my screen waiting for it to load. They appeared to be in a wooded area. “I know where they are. I'm going to get them.”

“You're not going alone.”

“And what are you going to do when we get there?” My eyes met Debut’s.

“Fearless is my best friend. I should be there.”

“You couldn't even figure out that she was replaced by someone else.” I saw the effect my words had on her and softened a bit. I didn't mean to come across so harshly.

“Look, we can all go but I hope you have a spare key for the minivan.”

“Yeah, just wait a minute.” Debut ran into the kitchen, shining the light from her phone, looking for the key. She came back with it and we went to the garage where I grabbed something from my car while everyone else got into the minivan.

“Is that a gun?” Lover’s eyes roamed down to the item I stowed away in my coat.

“Yes. Now keep your voice down. They don't need to know what I plan on doing.”

“You can't kill her!”

“Yes I can and that's what I plan on doing. Now get in the car.”

“Evermore.”
