"Good morning Sir", everyone greeted the person who walked by their cubicles engrossed in his phone. He just nodded at the greetings and went in his cabin.
"How do you think is his mood today? I needed leave, will he approve?", one employee asked the other.
"I don't know, how it is gonna be anyways? He is always cold and rude, it does not make a difference", other employee answered.
The third person just shook his head at the regular conversations going on around his boss every single day he walks into this office. He never understood why couldn't they let him be.
"Rohit Sir, aapko Virat sir bula rahe hai"
"Kaka aapko kitne baar bola hai don't call me Sir", said Rohit and then went to Virat's office direction.
He knocked the door and got the instruction to come in, "yes sir?", he said politely.
"There is a presentation for this brand I have mailed you, research a bit and let me know the pitch", said Virat without looking up at Rohit who was noting down the same.
"We need it today that's why I have called personally", said Virat.
"No problem sir, will do it right away", Rohit said.
"Anything else?", asked Rohit to which Virat just nodded in no and Rohit left the cabin.
Rohit was engrossed in his work, "What now?", he asked annoyingly when the colleague for the nth time tapped his shoulder.
"Tell me in detail na Rohit how is his mood?"
"I don't understand you guys seriously, if it is a genuine reason you need leave and it falls under your own holidays-- why will he deny you and why will it depend on his mood? Do you even know who you are working for? He cares for his work and employees the most, he is not vocal but his actions say everything. So go and ask him directly", yelled Rohit as they were disturbing him from the time he had come out of the cabin.
He just got up to go to a quiet place when he noticed Virat standing there and his expression clearly told that he had heard everything. Others won't get that expression but Rohit could read it clearly.
Rohit mumbled sorry which was audible to everyone, he stopped by Virat for a sec and said sorry. He took his laptop and files in the corner room where he could get some silence.
Virat returned to his cabin, for the very first time he had heard loud voice in his office specially from Rohit.
It was almost 10 pm, Virat noticed everyone went home. He checked his email for Rohit's research but he didn't receive anything.
He decided to check the room if he was there or had left, he didn't have Rohit's phone number. And he was not at his desk so no use of extension.
Virat slowly opened the door and found Rohit sitting on the floor engrossed in the file. His sleeves folded, tie undone, highlighter in his mouth as he was reading something and marking in the file.
Virat knocked the door softly to gain his attention.
"Sir", Rohit stood up only to stumble on his feet as they had gone numb because of sitting there for hours.
"Careful", Virat said and immediately supported him before he could fall and made him sit on the chair.
"Sorry, I did not realise the time. I was just going to mail you, I am going through last file. Is it late? Am I late to submit it? Did I ruin--"
"You should really breathe for a second", said Virat interrupting his rambling.
Rohit rubbed his neck sheepishly.
"I am waiting for the research, take your time and give it to me. There is no rush, we just need it before morning. You just do it in sometime and take tomorrow off", said Virat and left the room before Rohit could say anything.
Rohit took the last file and started reading it when the knock interrupted him after 10-15 mins.
"Yes", Rohit said and door opened only to see a delivery boy.
"Sir, this is for you", the boy kept the package.
"Payment?", Rohit asked but he replied that it was already done.
Rohit opened and saw a proper meal with a note, "Have your dinner first", it said. He knew it was from Virat, no matter how he behaved outside, he very well knew how soft and kind hearted person Virat was.
Rohit took the dinner, the last file and knocked Virat's cabin, "come in", he said.
He saw Virat in the balcony smoking, he wanted to stop him but he didn't. Virat turned towards him throwing his cigarette away.
"Yes?", Virat asked.
"I thought we could have dinner together, I can't eat alone", said Rohit softly.
Virat was about to deny but he know how much Rohit was working without complaining one bit, "I have had my dinner but I can join you with coffee may be", said Virat which got smile on Rohit's face.
"You can take the couch to eat comfortably", Virat said and then sat on his own chair sipping his coffee continuing his work.
Rohit was having his dinner and doing his work. They were working but suddenly Virat realised how comfortable that silence was, not lonely kind of silence but someone was there with him kind of.
It was 3 am when Virat noticed Rohit had fallen asleep but not before mailing the whole pitch to him.
He took his jacket and covered him as he was shivering the office AC. He could not help but stare his tired face, before he could get more close he backed off realising his actions.
He just went in the balcony and took out another cigarette to calm his nerves. He did some changes to the pitch till the morning.
He took a last look at Rohit sleeping peacefully and then went to the presentation instructing Aman not to let anyone enter his cabin.
"If anyone enters except you then you are fired", said Virat sternly and left from there.
