## Chapter ?: Phoney Faces and Comic Book Clowns
"So, Phoebe, my kid sister, she's got this new thing she's all hopped up about. Some Korean show, 'True Beauty,' she calls it. Says it's about this girl, Jugyeong, who's supposed to be some kind of beast without makeup. Personally, I think the whole thing sounds phony as hell. Like, what kind of world judges a girl for her face? It's all a bunch of superficial garbage if you ask me.
Anyway, Phoebe's glued to the screen, practically inhaling popcorn. She keeps elbowing me, making me watch these scenes. First, there's this Jugyeong chick, all dolled up like a department store mannequin. She's got this whole routine with foundation and fake eyelashes, like she's building a damn skyscraper on her face. It's enough to make a guy nauseous.
Then there's this Suho guy. He's supposed to be the heartthrob, all brooding and mysterious. Looks like he walked straight out of one of those cheesy romance comics Phoebe reads. You know, the ones with the guys who have impossible hair and pouty lips. Give me a break.
And don't even get me started on Seojun. He's like the 'bad boy' of the group, all leather jackets and motorcycle helmets. He tries to act all tough, but you can tell he's just as phony as the rest of them. Probably spends hours in front of the mirror, too.
The whole thing is just one big, phony production. It's like they took all the shallow, superficial crap about high school and turned it up to eleven. And the worst part is, Phoebe's eating it up with a spoon. She keeps sighing and saying how romantic it all is. It makes me want to puke.
I swear, this generation is doomed. They're so busy worrying about how they look and what other people think, they forget to be themselves. It's enough to make a guy want to go live in a log cabin and never come out."
