Things We Wish We Had Said Or Did.

SILENCE

They see her silence,
because they never noticed her
when she was trying to be heard
among those numerous voices,
her voice was shadowed by all other
loud, different, jumbled voices
trying to make themselves heard.

She tried her best to scream, shout
to make at least one of them
listen to her at least once
but no one actually heard her.

She stepped back, defeated
sat down silently and started to hear
each one of them,
with a smile, she made sure
everyone around her felt heard.

She heard, and heard and heard until
her ears hurt and head begged for silence,
she kept hearing everyone until
there was no one left to hear.

She looked around, parted her lips
to hear herself for once
but no voice came.

She tried, tried and tried until
her throat hurt, eyes welled with tears
there she was left unheard again
by everyone and by her own self.

There she still sat in silence and with smile
and still heard everyone.
Making sure no one felt unheard.
There they saw her silence but
never saw her desire to be heard.
