(Main Theme - Punch-Out!!)
Jack: The WVBA, or the World Video Boxing Association, has attracted a number of notable boxers, from Glass Joe to Piston Honda.....
Emma: Don Flameco to Mike Tyson himself.
Jack: And at the top of it all, Little Mac.
Emma Little is known about Little Mac's backstory, other than that he grew up in the Bronx. So you know he's tough!
Jack: He went to New York after taking interest in the World Video Boxing Association, so that he could find someone who could train him. He was denied by over 200 coaches as he seemed too weak. Until he met Doc Louis, the inventor of the Star Punch and former heavyweight champion. Doc Louis trained Mac and eventually assisted him in tackling the World Circuit.
Emma: And the folks at the WVBA aren't your average boxers. There are teleporting magicians, spin-kicking kickboxers, and giant frickin' hippos! What the hell? Is that even legal?
Jack: Well, the WVBA operates a bit differently than our world's boxing. Headbutting and kicking don't seem to be against the rules. There aren't even weight classes.
Little Mac
Boxer-Puncher boxing style
Counter-Puncher
Hook
Jab
Uppercut
Star Punch
Straight Lunge
Jolt Haymaker
Rising Uppercut
Slip Counter
Last Stand
Giga Mac (Transforms after Giga Mac Juice bar is filled by hitting the opponent at certain times or if he gets a Final Smash ball)
Trades speed for power
Can earn Star Punches just by taunting
Lacks stamina
Jack: Of the four different styles of boxing, Mac's with the Boxer-Puncher style, where one utilizes speed, jab combos and counter punches to his techniques. This is fitting because not only can he hit a bit harder than an Out-Boxer, but also moves faster than a Swarmer and Slugger. However, he does somewhat fall into the Counter-Puncher sub category. This style of boxing focuses on waiting for the opponent to make a mistake and taking advantage with counters.
Emma: It's especially effective against more aggressive opponents, exhausting and leaving them open to counter punches. Jab, Uppercut, Rising Uppercut and Jolt Haymaker are pretty straightforward with their names. Straight Lunge can launch Mac into his opponent when charged and Slip Counter can knock on opponent back if Mac times the dodge correctly. If he's one the verged of being knocked out, he can bring himself up with Last Stand.
Jack: His iconic move is the Star Punch, a moved used by his coach Doc before passing it down to him. He jumps up and performs a spinning uppercut. It's so powerful that a fully charge Star Punch can KO most foes. But we're not done, when Mac lands enough punches, he fuels his "Giga Mac Juice" and becomes Giga Mac. While Giga Mac becomes slower, he trades speed for increased punching power and endurance.
Feats
Has become Boxing Champion several times
Has defeated a vast array of opponents way out of his weight class (literally)
On a daily basis, stuns, knockdowns and sends opponents flying
Has his own hall of fame
Appeared on posters and newspapers
Successfully defended said title
Knocked back King Hippo
Punched Sandbag through a 2nd story window (Smash canon only)
Can get up at the count of one after being knocked down (NES game)
Dodges swings from Aran Ryans rope attack and Disco Kid's Disco Flurry
Shown to be a strategist in combat, catches his opponents off guard and isn't fooled by fake attacks. In fact, Little Mac relies on dodging attacks and attack patterns over brute force
Defeated Mike Tyson, Super Macho Man, Donkey Kong, Sandman
Star Punch can knock down Bald Bull in Title Defense, who was shown to be able to remain standing after being hit by a fully grown bull
Can take punches from Don Flamenco (launched a bull at least a dozen meters into the air), Soda Popinski (can drag a cargo truck with his teeth), Mr. Sandman (can punch through brick walls) and Donkey Kong
Can outspeed Piston Hondo, who was shown racing against a bullet train
Emma: Under Doc's training, Little Mac has become the WVBA world champion 3 times and it ain't due to the wide variety of opponents he had to face and are twice his size. Like Don Flamenco who can punch a bull out of a stadium or Piston Hondo who can outrun a bullet train which can travel 320 km/hr, and even Doc Louis and the legendary Mike Tyson themselves.
Popup: Piston Hondo can also create shockwaves with the speed his punches, clocking at Mach 3.54 (2716.133 mph).
Jack: He's won over Aran Ryan despite him cheating, took blows from Mr Sandman who can demolish a warehouse with his punches and even KO'd Donkey Kong! You know, the giant ape that can punch fast enough to ignite explosions and knock the moon down. Okay sure, that's technically not the same DK from Nintendo and he wasn't taking the fight seriously. But hey, we did say the series isn't grounded by reality.
Weaknesses
While tough, Little Mac can only take so much punishment before he goes down. His HP compared to other professional boxers is below average
Getting hit results in the loss of all his Star Punches
Relies on speed over power
Giga Mac is comparatively slower and more predictable
Good on the ground, terrible in the air
No projectiles or long ranged options
Is still a human by the end of the day
Jack: But Little Mac is far from the most unbeatable boxer there is. He's still human by most means and his fighting is pretty simple: relying on his opponents making mistakes to counterattack. Which can become dangerous if Mac can't get a read on them or if he's too slow to react.
Emma: He also prefers speed over power thanks to his style of boxing. Likewise, Giga Mac is strong but slower and taking too many hits can result in him losing all of his Star Punches. And eventually Mac decided that he grew tired of the fame, forcing himself to retire after taking 3 losses.
Jack: But despite his flaws, Little Mac has rose through the ranks and has become probably the most recognizable boxer in video game history.
Little Mac: Right on!
