From Ballerina to Karateka:
Haleema's karate style is influenced by her background in classical ballet. She took classical ballet from ages three to twelve years, so she has a decade of ballet experience under her belt.
She knows how to stand precisely en pointe (on her tip-toes) and is extremely fluid in her movements, which translates into her karate style. When she fights, she moves fluidly and it always seems like a dance when she does it, unless she is purposely trying to be messy or scrappy, or unless she is not in a clear state of mind.

Cobra Kai (under Kim Da-Eun and John Kreese)
Haleema started training under Sensei Kim Da-Eun in Cobra Kai karate when she was a preteen. Kim was ruthless, especially because Haleema was soft at heart, and taught her how to shut off her emotions to be merciless in fights. Haleema became an aggressive fighter who struck first, but she was never ruthless and could never bring herself to fight mercilessly. This led her to feel isolated and trapped in her environment. Under Sensei Kim, Haleema developed stamina and strength, but was never fully focused.
When Haleema was sixteen years old, Cobra Kai's original sensei, John Kreese, traveled to Korea and began teaching her. He taught her how to use her bottled up emotions to her advantage. She became more focused in her fighting and more fluid in her movements.

More About Haleema's Fighting Style
Haleema did not stay in Cobra Kai karate. When she competed in the Sekai Tekai at sixteen years old, she strayed away from Cobra Kai and developed her own individual style. Her style was heavily influenced by Miyagi-Do karate and quick defensive techniques, which she learned by watching Miyagi-Do and the Iron Dragons perform in tournaments.
She also learned how to use fighting fans on her own in South Korea, but she only uses them when necessary or for performances. She relies more on defense, counter moves, and catching her opponents off-guard.
