I tucked in my emerald, green cloak, one that I stole from Zander because it was much warmer, and I cast a warming charm on top of all that as I practically dashed out of the castle gate. After all, I get cold way too easily and I didn't know how long I'd be out. Hopefully, I'd get some Hippogriffs and fly back to Hogwarts - easy roundtrip. "REN! Where are you going?!" I heard my brother shout, seeing a familiar blonde and Scot by his side as they ran out of the castle doors. They'd probably seen Natsai and I on the Hippogriffs when we flew near the school, but I'd gotten into the air again before they were able to get outside. I was grateful to be already moving quickly, running out the bigger gates before they shut for the evening - since I knew they'd want to join me if they knew what I was doing. I didn't give them a chance to intervene, though, as I whipped out my broom, jumped onto it, and quickly ascended into the sky. "I'm sorry," I muttered to myself, apologizing to the boys even if they couldn't hear me before I cast disillusionment, turning back towards the sky, zooming away so that they couldn't see me anymore. I know, I know, maybe it was dramatic, but I was tired of endangering my friends and my brother just because they're afraid of me getting hurt. They couldn't stop me from saving people, and they can't just make my decisions for me, especially if someone needed me. And right now, the Hippogriffs were in danger, and I needed to find them before Harlow found them again. He was after a phoenix too, but I hadn't heard of any places to find them, so for now I was only after the Hippogriffs.
It was cold, the wind whipping at my face as I flew through the trees; however, in some ways it did feel nice due to the adrenaline flowing through my veins. It was almost refreshing I'd say but the sound of heavy-thudding hooves and noises of distress resounded from the forest floor below, and I knew I needed to intervene. I took a straight nose-dive as I went through the trees, jumping off the broom as soon as I got close to the ground, not even giving one of the wizards a chance to react as I fired a quick Glacius charm followed by a Diffindo charm that effectively, severed his frozen form in half. But I didn't even see the gore that undoubtedly resulted from a deep gash as I turned on my heel and began attacking one of the witches who had been dueling with a centaur. They weren't exactly "wand-carriers" like Lodgok had described, but the centaurs were powerful nonetheless, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they weren't leaving me in the battle, though they could've done so when I'd come to their aid.
"Confringo!" I shouted, spinning and hitting another wizard that had tried to cast the killing curse towards one of the centaurs. He glanced at me with a grateful face, but it dropped almost as quickly as it appeared as he made a mad dash towards me. I didn't know what was going on, but my slight distraction had left me vulnerable to an incoming killing curse fired by a nearby witch...but my heart broke as I watched the centaur collide with me and saw the curse hit him, the life draining from his eyes as his body fell with a dull thud. I skid on the ground, sharp rocks cutting into my flesh that I didn't notice as I peered over at the centaur before drinking Maxima and Invisibility potions, seeing the witch's face drop in fear as she frantically looked around. I managed to get up behind her, casting an Incendio at the same time the invisibility potion wore off, followed by a Glacius charm. The heat changing into a sudden cold caused her to scream in pain, but I was ticked off. I could feel dark magic brewing, the remnants of the Firestorm charm threatening to bubble to the surface, until I managed to talk myself down and retake my self-control.
I remembered the faces of those that were counting on me, and I didn't want to turn to the dark magic that only resulted in more death and destruction. Besides, basic charms, spells, potions and defensive plants did the trick just as well if not better since I could control the effects of those more than the effects of dark magic. I cast a quick Diffindo, watching her slump to the ground not even a second afterwards. I heard a couple more hooves nearby, but these didn't belong to centaurs. They were lighter somehow, almost as if they barely touched the ground. I cast disillusionment as I went to investigate and I nearly fell over as I saw none other than a unicorn, a magical beast I'd never imagined was real. Granted, I didn't think dragons or trolls were real either but here I was - and now there was a real unicorn in front of me. There was only one, and I knew that I needed to take it in to protect it from poachers; after all, I'd imagine Unicorns were just as rare in the wizarding world as they were in storybooks and fairytales. I cast Levioso on the unicorn before I used the nab-sack to take in the unicorn, but it was a lot harder than any previous beasts. In fact, this one had almost gotten away and while I wanted to wait around to see if another one would appear, I needed to continue my mission without delay.
