Sorry Birdies, life got in the way.

Part 18!

Adam lead me to the limo, who he had called, and opened the door. When he was in next to me, the limo going to his apartment, he pulled me to his side.

His fingers went to the back of my head, dancing in my hair. I felt the mask loosen, before falling to the ground.

He removed his own mask, and set it on the seat next to him.

I looked into his eyes, and I felt weak. His eyes stared into mine, as if he saw some underlying meaning.

The car pulled to a stop. Adam climbed out, pulling me with him.

I followed him to the building. Glancing up at the name, it was called the Sergeant Jasper.

There was a guard sitting behind a metal caged desk. She nodded at Adam. "Evening Mr. Dykes."

He nodded at her, and she sent us a sparkling smile as we headed into the elevator. Someone else was in the elevator.

"Hey Adam. Had a nice time at the dance?"

"Yeah. Red and I are heading up. We left early." I tucked myself under Adam's arm and into his side as he spoke to the man. He had mismatched eyes. "How are you are you dealing Marc? I heard you've been watching over a little bird."

He smirked. "She's more feisty than little. Raven's having a hayday with her."

Adam's eyebrow lifted. "Is that so?"

Marc laughed. "Everyone likes her; she's kind of part of the group now. We're in the middle of a closed adoption."

I was confused listening in their conversation. "Yeah, she's a keeper." Adam said, squeezing me into his side. I pulled off my heels.

The elevator opened. Adam and Marc walked out, as I was still firmly pressed into Adam's side.

They said goodbye as Marc walked into his floor. Adam walked a few doors down, pulled out keys, and opened it up. He pulled me in.

He closed the door behind him.

"I'll get you something you can sleep in."

I nodded.

Adam came back into the living room carrying a pile of clothes.

"The bathroom is over here." Past the living room to the right, was the kitchen. Next to the kitchen stood a door. He opened it, and it lead into a bathroom.

"Thanks." I whispered hoarsely.

He nodded, handing me the clothes.

I closed the bathroom door. Leaning my back against the door, my legs slid from underneath me. I dropped like a bag of rice.

My head fell back against the door.

A tear rolled down my cheek.

I was living a lie.
