Emily Grace Carter was over the moon when she saw her name on the senior Lionesses call-up list! Growing up playing footy in the local park and then the youth academy, this was her dream come true. She felt a mix of excitement and nerves about training with her idols. This was her big chance to show that all the hard work had paid off, and she was ready to give it everything she had.

----------------

My first camp was incredible. We did training with the under-23 lionesses (it was a joint camp) and whatnot at the start of the camp, but the high energy changed once it hit towards the end of our stay at SGP. All the younger girls – Aggie, Ella, Alessia, Maya, Grace, Hannah, Gabby, Laura, Ruby, Jess Park, and Jess Naz – got together for a fun night of bonding. We laughed until our sides hurt, played silly games, and shared stories from our journeys. The energy was so playful and positive, and it really showed how close we've become over time. It felt like we were more than just teammates; we were like a big, supportive family.

Ella Toone ended off the night with a cheeky grin and a mischievous glint in her eye, suggesting we play Truth or Dare. I've learnt already she was the instigator of fun, and we knew we were in for a good time. "Alright, ladies, nothing too crazy, but let's keep it interesting!" she said, setting the tone perfectly. Her playful nature had everyone buzzing with excitement, ready for some light-hearted dares and a lot of laughs.

Towards the end of the game, Ella dared me to kiss Aggie Beever-Jones, completely unaware of our past relationship. My heart skipped a beat, and there was this electric tension in the air. Everyone was watching, and I felt a mix of nerves and excitement. Aggie and I exchanged a quick, knowing look, and after a moment of hesitation, I went for it. The room erupted in cheers and laughter, and it felt like a crazy but perfect way to break the ice with the new squad.

Emily leaned in, her heart pounding as she kissed Aggie. The moment their lips met, a flood of memories and emotions washed over both of them. For Emily, it was a mix of surprise and nostalgia, feeling the familiar warmth of Aggie's touch. Aggie, caught off guard, felt a rush of old feelings, a blend of happiness and bittersweet memories. The kiss was brief but charged, hinting at their shared history without giving too much away to the rest of the girls, who were cheering and laughing around them.

After the kiss, I could feel the atmosphere shift. The other girls started whispering and exchanging glances, clearly picking up on the awkwardness between Aggie and me. I heard snippets of their conversations, like "Do you think they've got history?" and "There's something more there." It was like a spotlight had been turned on us, and the suspense was building as they speculated about our relationship. I tried to play it cool, but I could tell they were all dying to know what was really going on.

Emily's mind flashed back to a few years ago, when she and Aggie first met at a summer football camp. They'd spent countless hours practising together, sharing secrets under the stars, and eventually, their friendship blossomed into something more. She remembered their first kiss, the late-night talks, and the way Aggie made her laugh like no one else. But then life got in the way, and they drifted apart. Now, sat here with Aggie again, all those unresolved feelings came rushing back, making everything even more complicated.

As the game ended, the playful mood started to get overshadowed by this growing tension. The younger girls were getting more curious and suspicious, throwing glances our way and whispering even more. There was this weird mix of laughter and unease as they tried to piece together what happened between Aggie and me. I could feel their eyes on us, and it was clear they were dying to know the full story, making it harder to just enjoy the moment.

The tension kept building until one of the younger girls, Grace Clinton, couldn't hold back any longer. She turned to me with a curious look and asked, "Emily, what's the deal with you and Aggie? Did you guys date or something?" My heart skipped a beat, and I felt Aggie tense up beside me. Everyone went silent, waiting for my answer. It was a pivotal moment, and I knew whatever I said next could change everything.

I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of everyone's eyes on me. Deciding it was time to come clean, I nodded slowly and said, "Yeah, Aggie and I were really close a few years ago. We had a bit of a thing, but life got in the way." The room was silent for a moment before the girls started murmuring amongst themselves, some nodding in understanding, others still curious. By being honest, I hoped to clear the air and maybe even open the door for a fresh start with Aggie. It was a gamble, but it felt like the right move to bring the squad closer together and set the stage for more open and honest dynamics in the future.

Looking back, Emily realised that the dare had really shifted the dynamics within the team. It had pushed her to be honest about her past with Aggie, and in doing so, she felt a weight lift off her shoulders. The girls seemed to respect her honesty, and it brought them all a bit closer. Emily saw that being open about her feelings, even the complicated ones, helped her grow. Navigating her feelings for Aggie while building new relationships with her teammates wasn't easy, but it made her stronger and more connected to the squad. It felt like a new beginning for all of them.

... and maybe a new beginning for Aggie and Emily.
