I stared at Blake with disbelief plastered on my face as he explained his story to me. He found his mate at the age of eighteen, the only problem was that the woman was already mated and pregnant with the child of his alpha. Driven by anger and jealousy he challenged the alpha. Long story short, he was banished by the pack, and left without contact with family and friends.
"Wow." I breathed, I could only imagine the pain his must've went through. Blake shrugged, "It's fine. Although I've always wondered whether the moon goddess was drunk or delusional with the mates she's set us up with."
I let out a chuckle, nudging him on the shoulder. "That is quite true. But I mean, I don't know. I was always the person that secretly believed in mates, and happy endings. That everything happens for a reason, you know? I still do, sometimes."
"That's all crap. They feed us those lies to cover up the harsh truth about our existence. Humans hunt us down because we're different. And we both know the whole point of mates is just for the temptations. We could easily replace them, but it still wouldn't be the same." He said the last sentence quietly. I watched as his eyes went glossy, as he refused to look at me.
"Are you crying?" I asked almost whispering. He blinked a few times, before looking back at me with a sad smile.
"Sorry about that. My allergies sort of kicked in." He said sheepishly.
I lift an eyebrow up at him, putting on a small grin. "Werewolves don't have allergies, Blake." I paused, "you know it's okay to cry, I won't judge you."
"I wasn't crying!" I almost cringed at his sudden outburst.
"Blake.. Really it's okay. Like all those stereotypes about guys crying and all, it doesn't matter. If you feel like crying, don't hold back."
"I wasn't-" I cut him off, giving him a pat in the back.
"I'm here for you. In fact-"
"Can you just let it go?" He said tiredly. I looked at his face, only now noticing the dark eye bugs that lay underneath his eyes, and how red and swollen his eyes actually was. Maybe I did push it too far, I mean, I just wanted to help.
"I'm sorry." I said looking down. He stopped his pace staring at me, "don't be." He simply said before a deep awkward silence ensured.
Crickets started to crock, as only the sound of our footsteps were heard. We reached an end to a trail, I looked up at Blake thinking if we've gone to the wrong direction.
"We're here." He said. I stared at him, as if his gone insane. There was nothing here for goodness sake!
As if sensing my confusion, he rolled his eyes. "Turn around." I did what he said, when tents and chattering people came into view.
"Oh." I blushed, I earned a chuckle from Blake, before he was called over by a group of lads. I stood there awkwardly, until a tall and slender woman with purple dyed hair walked over to my direction.
"Hi, I'm Lisa." She held out a hand for me to shake. I shook it, giving her a nod. "And I'm Sophia."
She sniffed me for a few seconds, giving me an odd look. "You have the smell of the royal kingdom. Why leave?"
Remembering the turn of events, I held back the tears. "I uh-was kicked out." I said simply.
She looked at me, contemplating wether she should question me or not. "I see. Anyways, follow me I'll introduce you to the rest."
I followed her to a group of guys, blake among them clinking on beer cans, and laughing from a joke a blonde one said.
"Guys, this is Sophia. She's no harm, I want you to treat her like your own. Got it?" The guys nodded there heads, all staring at me at either shock or confusion.
I hid under there gazes, not used at all to the attention I was getting.
"Sophia, this is blaze." She pointed at the blonde one. He gave me a wink, as Blake lightly punched him on the shoulder.
"That's jack." She pointed at a tanned skinned man. He gave me a nod, which I returned to him.
"Phil." A buff man with piercings gave me a friendly smile.
"And of course, you already know Blake." Blake saluted me.
"So, now that we've got that settled. We need to give you a code name."
"A code name?" I questioned.
"Yes. You see, Blake over there is actually Bradley. And Phil, is well, Phillip. So, what's it gonna be?" She stared at me.
"Um," I paused. My mother did want to name me Sadie if not Sophia.
"Skyler." I said the complete opposite of what my mother would've expected. This time, it was my decision.
I expected a laugh, or a snort. But surprisingly everyone was quite supportive. "Skyler, I like it." Blake said.
"Welcome to the group, Skyler." Lisa said. "Finally, another woman in here. It's just so stressful with all this annoying imbeciles."
I chuckled giving her a toothy grin. Maybe, everything did happen for a reason.
