IN WHICH... HE PUTS ALL HIS ATTENTION ON HER TO PLAY ROBLOX WITH HER.

IT'S BEEN A MINUTE SINCE I TRIED TO GET JAELIN OFF THAT DAMN GAME.

Bro stay glued to the screen like he in the NBA finals or some shit. Tonight, I wasn't tryna hear it though. I had a plan, and he was gon' listen.

"Aye mane, watch the fuck out! TO THE RIGHT! HE'S TO THE RIGHT! MANE YOU ASS DAWGG!" Jaelin damn near broke his controller yelling at his teammates. His whole vibe was locked in, headset on, talkin' mad shit. But me? I was over it.

"Bae, can you get off the game? I wanna play sum with you," I said, standing there with my arms crossed.

Jaelin tilted his head, taking off one side of his headset. His eyes locked on mine instantly. The way he gave me his full attention like that? Whew. That shit always caught me off guard. I could feel my resolve cracking already, so I looked down at my nails to avoid his stare.

"Whatchu wanna play, ma?" His voice was smooth, laced with curiosity.

"Umm, just a horror game on Roblox," I mumbled, still avoiding eye contact. I lowkey thought he was gonna laugh me off. I mean, Jaelin don't do Roblox like that. COD? Sure. Madden? Bet. But Roblox? Nah.

"Yes ma'am."

I snapped my head up so fast I almost gave myself whiplash. "Wait, for real?"

He turned back to his game, pressed a button to unmute his mic. "Mane, I'll talk to y'all later. We can run squads on COD when I'm done playing with my shorty."

The chatter in his headset exploded. "Mane, she got you pussy whipped," one of his homeboys said. Then another chimed in, and before long, all of them were clowning him in unison.

Jaelin just smirked. "Whatever you say, dawg," he replied, nonchalant as hell. He powered down his game, opened up Roblox on his PS5, and scooted back on the bed, patting the spot next to him.

"So, what game you wanna play again, pretty?" His voice was low, teasing almost, and that nickname? Yeah, he had me weak. I climbed onto the bed, scrolling through the game options on my phone.

"It's this one called Doors," I said, showing him the screen. "It's scary as fuck."

He raised an eyebrow. "You? Playin' a scary game? Don't tell me you gon' be screamin' and shit."

I smacked his arm. "Boy, shut up! You the one that's gon' be screamin'."

He laughed, shaking his head as he joined the game. "Aight, bet. But if you start wildin', don't be tryna jump in my lap."

I rolled my eyes but couldn't help the smile creeping on my face. We loaded into the game, and immediately, the creepy ass music had me regretting my choices. Jaelin leaned back, controller in hand, cool as ever.

"This it? This the big bad horror game?" he teased.

"Just wait," I said, already clutching my pillow for dear life.

The first jump scare hit, and I damn near threw my phone. Jaelin started dying laughing, tears in his eyes.

"Mane, I knew you couldn't handle this shit!" he hollered.

"Boy, shut the hell up! You supposed to protect me," I shot back, smacking his arm again.

"I got you, pretty. Just stay close," he said, his tone softer this time. And for the rest of the game, he actually did. Whenever I got scared, he'd crack a joke or say something to make me laugh. By the end of it, I was leaning into him, his arm around my shoulder while we navigated the spooky ass halls together.

"See? Told you it wasn't that bad," he said when we finally beat the game.

"Mhm. Whatever," I replied, but deep down, I was grateful. For real. Jaelin might've been addicted to that damn PS5, but when it came down to it, he always made time for me. And that? That's why he's my man.
