"Chimeras?" My dad asked as Stiles, Malia, and I stood in his office.

"Two dead chimeras." Stiles corrected him. "And eight new ones." Malia added. "So it's ten in all." Stiles said and I looked at him, "Good to know you can do math Stiles." I smiled sarcastically and he gave me a look.

"I'm thinking maybe eleven." He said as he put up a picture of Donovan besides the other chimeras. "Our station tech guys confirmed something for me, they said both the holding cell lock and cameras could have malfunctioned because of something electromagnetic." he said before picking up the novel, "You said that um.. these guys-"

"Dread Doctors." Malia said interrupting him. "Are we really calling them that?"

"So they broke Donovan out?" Malia asked staring at the book, "That's how they got into Eichan, isn't it?" my dad said.

I stared blankly at the picture of Donovan on the wall behind my dad, "Donovan's a chimera." I said moving closer to it, "Yeah, but is he a failure like Lucas and Tracy?"

"If he is," Malia picked up the red pen, "He's probably dead." she said almost marking Donovan's picture with a large red X, but my dad held her hand, stopping her, "Not until I've seen a body."

I noticed how quite Stiles had been at the mention of Donovan, "Well you're uncharacteristically quite." I said and he turned around to face me.

"Sorry I'm uh.." he trailed, "I'm just trying to think about it. These are all teenagers right? So I mean, shouldn't we be trying to figure out why these teenagers?" he said.

"If the Dread Doctors, if they went through all that, burring them, killing them, breaking one of them out of jail-"

"They couldn't have been chosen at random." My dad said finishing Stiles' sentence.

I looked at Stiles as I smiled at realization, "They had to have something in common."

"Something that made them right, right for this experiment." My dad stated.

I looked at Donovan's picture again before speaking, "Something that made them special."

"Come on now. The three of you have to get to school." My dad said as he pulled the three of us out of his office.

Stiles had driven us to the school and I went one way as Malia and him went the other. As I was walking outside, about to walk down the stairs, I noticed two familiar faces looking down at the high school students. I recognized one of the faces as Scott, and the other was Theo.

No no no no, I thought as I quickly turned the other way. "Skylar!" Theo called as I was about to start walking, but I came to a halt when he called my name. I turned around on my heels but kept my eyes on the ground, "You wanna tell me where you were last night?"

I looked around before I opened my mouth to speak, "I was, I was at Malia's. We were studying."

I was surprised at my skills of quickly coming up with an excuse, since usually when I do that it sounds pretty lame.

"That's strange, because I was with Malia most of the night, and before that she was at the library." Theo said.

I could feel my stomach twisting, I had this feeling in it, it was almost like jealousy. Why would I be jealous though? It's not like I was jealous of Malia because she had been spending time with Theo, most of the night, doing god knows what.

"Yeah I um, dropped her off at the school because she forgot her chemistry book at school. She said she would be fine on her own." This was going nowhere. In fact, he probably already knows I was at Eichan last night.
