She wakes with a start,

Cold sweat, pounding heart,

As the shock waves begin to invade.

Her weary limbs ache,

How much more can she take?

These bad memories will not be delayed.

She lies still as she tries

To control the sad cries

That are quickly becoming so real.

Cruel words haunt her mind,

Twisted meanings they find,

Will this torment her future now seal?

The turmoil won't cease,

And the shock waves increase,

Her mind races, rest will not come.

Should she stay now or leave

Find a quiet place to grieve

And yearn for some peace,  at least .... some?

Then a gentle voice says,

Through her dark, painful haze,

"My darling, don't forget I am here.

Though it's true, I can't know,

What is troubling you so,

Know this, I will always be near."

His loving voice sighs,

As he looks in her eyes

And sees the hurt others have brought.

When he touches her face,

She knows he will erase

Her pain, bring her the comfort she's sought.

She weakly turns round

To catch his anxious frown,

Which dissolves into a loving smile.

And his arms, whispered love,

Like a sign from Above,

Ease her gently to sleep for a while.
