First Week

We had waited all night for Mizushima Sensei to arrive. We had stayed up until the early morning (Yoshio had his watch for reference) for her to open the secret door to the shelter.

It had been five days. She wasn't coming.

Kimiko was relentless. She kept blaming herself for not standing up to her for once.We all tried to relieve her of her guilt, but nothing worked.

There was rations of dried, canned and cured foods and bottled water. The shelter was intended for the entire school,so it was a lot like a warehouse filled with necessities. It was a perfect square with concrete walls and generators that provided meager light from lamps hanging on the low ceiling. It wasn't so low that it made us uncomfortable. (Yoshio was the only one whose head brushed the ceiling) To make it even more 'comfortable' there was no light switch,so we could never turn the lamps off unless we wanted to break them.

Hey,we're supposed to be a very rich school, but we aren't so powerful that we spend our funds on a shelter we may not even use.

There was supposed to be enough food and water for our entire school for five days. There had been 3,096 students and 52 members of the teaching staff and 23 members of the regular school staff like lunch ladies and janitors. There were sixteen of us.Satoru did the math and said that,as long as we rationed it properly,we would have enough food for about 990 days.As expected of the Ultimate Mathematician.

There were blankets and quilts a plenty that came in a variety of sizes and patterns. The first few nights we all just grabbed what we needed and crept off to our own places in the warehouse.

The purpose of the shelter was for students to have a place to escape to if there was some natural disaster. There were two small porta-potties,but since we had no running water we know that that wouldn't last us very long. There was also the matter of where we were supposed to bathe and where we would put our trash.

Well, this isn't exactly a natural disaster, but I'm sure the other students would have wanted us to use it.

Our class was the only one to have made it to the shelter so far.Whether there were other survivors,we didn't know. While we did have a radio with plenty of battery replacements there was nothing but static.

"Why?I don't get it.W-wasn't the raid, just at Hopes Peak?"Yoshio asked with some trepidation.

He must not want to jinx anything.

I walked to the entrance where Kimiko and Akihiro were still waiting.Akihiro was standing a distance away and had an arrow ready for any possible onslaught.Kimiko was looking for any signs of another person who was trying to open it.

"Anyone?"I was asking both of them,Kimiko if there were any other students or Mizushima Sensai,Akihiro if any of those psychos had found us.

"No...no one."Kimiko sighed shakily.Akihiro nodded his head grimly.

I didn't know whether to feel relieved,or disappointed.

Fumiko was being comforted by Aya.She was still crazy from the eventful day we had.She hadn't stopped grinning and she kept spouting nonsense we couldn't understand.

I walked over to them and tried to get close.Fumiko shouted,"GET LOST SCUM!!!"and erupted into giggles.Aya looked at me apologetically and returned to her previous job.

I walked away hesitantly and found Igao sitting on one of the crates scatters around the sides of the warehouse.I joined him and started swinging my legs casually.
