The week that followed the dream was like any other; Emily attended school as usual and continued to work her shifts at Henry's Diner. She didn't speak of Sam's Vampirism or the dream she'd had again to anyone, especially Taylor, who, despite Emily's constant arguing, still insisted that she get help. But Emily had admitted to her mother that it must have been some sort of strange hallucination brought on by the lack of blood, and that she had probably fainted and had some strange dream because she had hardly eaten since Sam's disappearance. It was just a crazy dream brought on by stress.
Of course, she herself believed none of this. She knew that Sam was trapped in that dungeon, waiting for someone to come and rescue her. And if no one believed Emily, then obviously she would have to come rescue Sam.
And so the week came and went, mundane as any other week, with no Sam to brighten Emily's days and make her laugh. She kept waiting with bated breath for some kind of dream or premonition like the one she'd had the days he fainted, but she didn't have any dreams that whole week; though that might have had to do with the fact that she had many sleepless nights. She just wished that she could do something instead of lying there, staring up at her ceiling. But what could she do? She didn't even know where Sam was, and she had no idea how she could possibly rescue her even if she did know where she was. Obviously someone had locked up those Vampires, which meant that whoever did it was stronger than them. Having seen how terrifying a Vampire can be when they're hungry, she didn't really want to see what something stronger was like.
What she needed was help. But where could she get it? It wasn't like she knew any other Vampires to help her, and even if she did, would they help her? Something had come over Sam when Emily had seen her, how did she know that other Vampires weren't like that all the time? Maybe after you were one for a while you did. . . .
But no, the Vampire boy she had seen in her dream hadn't been like that. Then again, he was obviously very weak, maybe he was acting differently than normal.
It was on Sunday night a week after the dream that it came to her: she did know another Vampire. Sam had mentioned it before she had run away, and Emily was amazed that she hadn't realized it by now. The Vampire who Turned Sam, who had done such a horrible thing to her best friend.
Zach.

The next day the Juniors and Seniors had a trip to the Museum of Natural History, a trip that Emily, under normal circumstances, would have been excited for. But as this meant spending the entire day with Zach, she wasn't particularly happy about it.
She didn't have any classes with Zach as she was in a more advanced program than him, but she had seen him in the hallways and cafeteria looking perfectly normal; at least, normal for him. He walked around with his fan club closely behind at all times, though the fan club didn't seem to be losing members to Zach's murderous tendencies; in fact, no one except Sam had disappeared, which meant that Zach wasn't attacking any students—of course, he could be Turning people at the school all the time, only they were perfectly fine with being some bloodsucking creature, and hadn't acted any differently. But somehow Emily had the idea that Sam was the only person Zach had Turned at the school, which somehow made Emily angrier. Of course she was terrified of him now that she realized that he was the one who had Turned Sam, but he didn't seem to have any interest in her. Everything seemed to be back to normal at the school now that she shock of a student suddenly disappearing, and only Emily seemed to really care anymore about Sam's wellbeing.
But now as the Juniors and Seniors wandered around the museum as the guide pointed out all the different exhibits and described the objects in the museum and their history, Emily was still on the lookout for any strange behaviour from Zach. She didn't trust him at all, still expected him to dig his canines into her neck and kill her, but as she was the only person as far as she was aware who knew the truth about him, she thought it her duty to watch over him and make sure that he didn't kill an innocent student. No one deserved to go through what Sam had gone through and was going through at the moment.
