Tener - to have (presesnt tense conjugation)
yo tengo - I have
tu tienes - you have
el tiene - he has
ella tiene - she has
usted tiene - you have (polite)
nosotros tenemos - we have
ellos tienen - they have (males only/ both males and females)
ellas tienen - they (female only) have
ustedes tienen - you (polite, plural) have
The verb tener can be used in many different ways. You can say i have something. For example; I have a book. Yo tengo un libro.
She has a sister. Ella tiene una hermana.
We have books. Nosotros tenemos libros.
You (polite, plural) have sisters. Ustedes tienen hermanas.
But another way to use the verb 'tener' is when saying ones age. Unlike in English where we say ' I am/ you are/ he is/ we are/ etc', in Spanish we say ' I have, you have, he has, we have, etc'
¿ Cuántos años (tú) tienes?
How many years do you have?
Yo tengo quince años.
I have fifteen years.
Tú tienes seis años.
You have 6 years.
Él tiene diez años.
He has 10 years.
Ella tiene cuarenta años.
She has 40 years.
Usted tiene cincuenta años.
You (polite) have 50 years.
Nosotros tenemos dieciséis años.
We have 16 years.
Ellos tienen setenta y nueve años.
They have 79 years.
Ellas tienen tres años.
They have 3 years.
Ustedes tienen treinta y cinco años.
You have 35 years.
You can also say:
¿ Tienes calor? - Are you hot?tener calor - to be hot
¿ Tienes frío? Are you cold?
tener frío - to be cold
¿ Tienes hambre? - Are you hungry?
tener hambre - to be hungry
¿Tienes sed? - Are you thirsty?
tener sed - to be thirsty
