Andrew Charlton: New Economic Ideas

Andrew Charlton has been a leading economist since 2008 when he was chosen by then-Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to be one of his economic advisors. At the time, the world's economy was in crisis as a result of the banking and mortgage collapse in the United States. Rudd needed a leading expert in macroeconomics. Charlton, teaching at Oxford University after receiving his Doctorate in Economics there, was happy to answer the call. Charlton advised Rudd for two years, representing Australia at the G20 summits. He caught Rudd's eye after he published Fair Trade for All, which he wrote with leading economist Joseph Stiglitz.
