Chapter Forty-Nine

Clarke:

The heavens turn, and time with them. Morning comes. Night falls. Sleep and awake. I am monotonous, moving through life with no emotion.

A week after Bellamy's recovery, guards storm the camp, searching tents for something. Slowly, I make my way to the front of the crowd that has gathered and try to see what is going on.

"Where is he?" A guard asks gruffly, when he doesn't find what he's looking for in a tent. He turns to the crowd, as if noticing us for the first time. "Where is Bellamy Blake?"

My heart stops beating, just for a second. My tongue is caught in my throat. The crowd erupts in a frenzy, all talking at once.

"What's going on, Princess?" Asks a deep voice from behind me.

I spin around and shake my head, trying to tell him that he needs to get out of here. He cocks his head, not understanding.

"Get out of here," I whisper through my teeth as he steps closer. He smiles and opens his mouth to speak, but a voice from the crowd calls out.

"There he is!"

And then the guards turn to us. The gruff guard who had spoken earlier shouts an order, but I only hear the blood pounding in my ears.

"They found the records," Bellamy says, as we try to disappear in the crowd. He spits a curse and grabs my hand, sprinting away from the guards.

"Bellamy Blake," a guard says from behind us, "Stop running. Put your hands on your head and turn around."

Bellamy sighs in defeat and releases my hand to do as the guard says. "I'm not sure what I did," Bellamy states.

"Don't play dumb with me, Blake," the guard says. More guards surround us. We're trapped on all sides. "I know what you did."

"Could you tell me? It seems to have slipped my memory." His words are cocky, and somehow I smile.

"Bellamy Blake, you are under arrest for your assassination attempt on the chancellor."

That's when his hands are jerked behind him, and forced into handcuffs.
That's when I act.

"Bellamy was pardoned for his crime by Chancellor Jaha himself. I was with him."

A figure steps forward, one who sends shivers down my back. Dave Murphy stands in front of me apologetically.

"Blake is the leader of the hundred prisoners we sent down, is he not?"

I pause. "Well, yes--"

"We have information from an anonymous source, stating that the leader of the prisoners murdered thousands of civilians in Mount Weather. This leader, we are told, killed all the people there." Dave Murphy pauses and looks between us. "Is this correct?"

My blood runs cold.

"No, sir," Bellamy says. "I didn't kill them."

Dave Murphy purses his lips in what can only be disappointment. "I thought better of you, Blake. I'm disappointed you're lying."

I draw a shaky breath. And then the words tumble from my mouth. "It was me. All of it."

Bellamy turns to look at me, and all of the guards pause. Time is frozen and my hands are trembling.

"I killed all of them. Mount Weather is gone because of me." Oh, how the words hurt. I can feel Bellamy's eyes on me, but I can't look. "I shot Bellamy." I look down, and then the words are tumbling from my mouth. "I killed your son."

"What." That was Dave Murphy. "Say that again."

I son, and my shoulders shake. "I killed your son."

"That was a confession to murder, sir," a guard says.

"Take her instead," Dave orders, his words harsh. "Let Bellamy go."

And they do. But Bellamy is screaming, and yelling, and I am doing nothing. I am letting them take me.

Bellamy runs after me, trying to pull me out of their grasp. A guard turns and punches him in the face. And then the gut.

"Please! Don't hurt him."

"Begging doesn't suit you, Clarke," Dave says gruffly. "Knock him out."

Bellamy collapses at my feet.

AN: Hello everyone! I hope you al enjoyed that. I am actually realizing that this story is coming to an end, and so I am beginning to think about another one. I've already written the first two chapters, and they are definitely better than these.

Lol. So once this book is done, I will begin to upload my new one, which will be a slow burn. :)
