When I woke up, I was lying sideways across the seats in one of the compartments. Emilia was sitting across from me, watching with anxious eyes. “Eleanor? How are you feeling?”

I paused to consider that question for a moment. How did I feel? Well, my head was pounding and I was aching all over. I wondered what spell the Death Eaters had used to knock us all out. “Like crap. How long was I unconscious?”

“It’s been a few hours. We’re getting close to Hogwarts now.”

I looked at my reflection in the window. I looked pretty normal, no blood or bruises, just a bit paler than usual. “Death Eaters gone?”

“Yeah.” Emilia’s eyebrows furrowed. “They took Luna.”

“I hope she’s okay,” I sighed. “How are the others?”

“In varying conditions. Most of them are awake, I think.”

            “Most?”

“Lavender’s in a pretty bad way. We need to get her to Madam Pomfrey as soon as we can.”

I cast my thoughts back to the attack. If I remembered correctly, Lavender had been hit directly by Bellatrix. That wasn’t a good sign. “Where is she now?”

“In her compartment. The twins are taking care of her.”

I gave a little nod. “What about Ginny and Neville?”

“Stunned. They’ll survive. They’re already awake.”

“Did you see what the Death Eaters did to us just before they left? I can’t remember a thing.”

Emilia shook her head. “Sorry, I couldn’t see. The light was nearly blinding.”

I shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. At least we’re all alive – for now. What do you think the Carrows are gonna do to us at Hogwarts?”

“I have no idea.” Emilia stood up, looking out of the compartment door. “Do you think you can sit tight for a minute, El? I’ve got to go talk to someone.”

“Sure,” I said absentmindedly, staring out of the window, a million thoughts running through my mind, mostly about the Carrows and how the D.A. were going to get out of this one.

Emilia left and returned less than a minute later, with (and this was the part that shocked me) Draco Malfoy in tow. She said something quietly to him before stepping out again with the excuse of, “I’m going to go see Lavender.”

            Draco stood awkwardly. “Um, hi.”

I stared at him blankly, only inclining my head slightly. “Malfoy.” He continued to stand, fiddling with his sleeve. “Please, take a seat,” I said dryly. He sat down across from me.

“Are you alright?” He asked me.

I laughed. “What do you think?” He didn’t answer. “Eh, I’ll survive.”

            “I’m sorry.”

“Sorry for what? That your dear Aunt Bellatrix is a homicidal maniac?”

“Eleanor, listen, they’re not going to kill Lovegood.”

“Did you not just hear me say that your aunt is homicidal?”
