I landed in LA and immediately felt at home. I know it sounds stupid as I just left home. But LA is my home now and I guess it was better that way. On the flight here I tried to sleep because I didn’t want to think about the people I just left behind. Harry made me promise I’d watch the remaining live shows and cheer for One Direction.

I hoped they’d win. They really deserved this.

I gathered my bags and searched for the familiar short, curly-haired girl.

“Aly!” Someone shouted behind me. I turned around and saw Soph waving at me. I walked over to her and hugged her tight.

“Oh, how I missed you.” She said, and she sounded sincere. “It’s just no fun living in our apartment alone.” Right, Lauren. We would be heading directly to the hospital to visit her.

“How is Lauren? Any better?” I asked, hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

Soph shook her head. “Not good. The other day the doctors talked to her and they can’t save her leg. So they’re going to amputate. Today.”

“Today? No! OMG, that’s horrible. We need to get to her as soon as possible. When’s the surgery?” I asked, dragging my bags behind me as we exited the airport.

“Aly, she shut herself down so bad. I haven’t seen her in weeks. She won’t talk, she won’t eat. She completely gave up on her.” I noticed the tears in Soph’s eyes.

“When the doctors told her the bad news her mom was also in the room. She said Lauren didn’t even flinch.” I was speechless. And angry. I wouldn’t let her wither like that.

“Does she know I took over all her assignments?” I asked reluctantly.

Soph nodded. “She doesn’t care. Aly, she just doesn’t care anymore! About anything.”

This was bad. And it was only the beginning. “When can I see her?” I asked, still determined to talk some sense into her.

“I don’t know. I’m waiting for her mom to call me back once they wrap up the surgery. But it might take hours. I say we head home so you can tell me everything about London.” That would take my mind off of the horrible news of Lauren’s amputation. But then again, it would put other thoughts back into my mind. I sighed. I just wished I could forget certain things.

“Home sweet home!” I couldn’t help but to smile. Once I opened the door a sweet scent filled my nostrils. I looked over at Soph.

“I made a cake, just for you.” She smiled sweetly.

“You shouldn’t have. But thank you.” I hugged her.

“Go upstairs. Do whatever you need to do, then come back so we can have some cake and then you can tell me everything.” She finished and slightly pushed me up the stairs.

“My room!” I squealed, “I missed you so much. You have no idea.” I giggled. I was exhausted from the dancing and I couldn’t sleep on the plane either. I decided to take a quick shower and threw my bags in the corner. Shower, cake and some caffeine. Those were my top priorities right now.

“Wow! That’s a huge piece of cake.” I said, looking down at my plate. Soph giggled.

“I never told you but I met this girl from London a year ago. She invited me over to her birthday party where they served this horrible dessert. I figured that’s what you’ve been eating for the past two months and I wanted to make it up to you!” She said with a wide grin.

OMG! She was Niall. With boobs. “That is so nice of you to do that” I said with a British accent and Soph made a face.

“Not sexy at all, this British accent.” We both laughed.
