Mirror

It wasn't long ago I longed for it
The turns, the smiles,
The conversations of my opinion
A break in the sentence
Of my eternal curse

But a thousand years is so long
To see the faces of those
Obsessed with their own reflection

Never seeing me at all
Just looking through me
To better see themselves

Truth be told I grew bored
And bitter.
But before you judge me
Think of those endless hours
Serving the vanity of others

The new Queen,
She was by far the worst
Every day the same primping
Followed by the same questions
"Mirror mirror on the wall
"Who is the fairest of them all?"

For years I told her.
She was beautiful
I spoke truth
Until the boredom
Turned to anger

One day I changed it
Yes, I knew it would bring anger
"The Fairest in the land is Snow
White. Flawless skin and ruby lips
only dimmed by her heart of purity
As fresh as Snow."

A simple truth
After an endless session
Of hearing about my flaws
In showing her new
White hairs and aging skin

I thought it would teach
Her a lesson about inner beauty
But it sent her into a rage
The likes I've never seen

She called for the child's heart
A sudden turns of events
But it did set her mind
To other things.
And gave me reprieve

A child is precious yes
But it was only one bit
Of self indulgent fun
In a thousand years
That has to count
For something.
