In the middle
Of the night
I creep down the stairs
And smile
A secret smile
And I am
Very
very
careful
Because the stairs
Creak
When you step the wrong way
And If I am caught
I'll be grounded for a
Million days
A midnight
Snack
Is what I have in mind
A truffle or two,
How much harm can chocolate do?
As I crawl
'Cross the floor
I think to myself,
How wonderful
that I can do this,
All those hungry kids in Africa
Can never even have a
Bite
Of the good
Things
I stuff my face
With
And then I feel
Guilty
And wrap the truffles in napkins
And build paper planes
To which I strap them
And launch them out
The window
And I hope they get to Africa,
So maybe I won't be so fat.
