Just putting this image out there-- it's not what Carter looks like at all, but it's one of the first really good images I found of casual people with wings (not amazing angels, etc.). Just look up Wingtalia on images... I love them. So, the picture is not mine. I definitely am not that good at drawing people (disclaimer!). Now for a really short piece...

Day 1

"Hello." Lochie planted himself in front of Carter and held a hand out. Carter looked at Lochie blankly.

Milo had helped Carter get the others out, and now the rest of the team were looking Carter up and down curiously, making him shift uncomfortably. Like with Milo, Carter was one of the first Tribe-members they'd ever seen.

His wings were huge and eagle-like, their reddish- brown colour complimented by the sun, his tall gazelle horns black like ebony, curving elegantly up from his head. He was wearing a beige wrap-round skirt that went to his knees, which was fastened around his waist with a length of thick rope. He was willowy, his bare torso lean and lightly muscled, a long necklace with a row of fangs attached to it hanging down across his breastbone. His skin was a rich shade of dark brown.

Lochie tried again.

"Hello," he said in Joju, pronouncing his words slowly as he lowered his still-outstretched hand. "I'm Lochie."

"Carter?" One of Carter's hooves scuffed the sand. "I mean... I'm Carter."

"Carter." Erri tugged at Carter's belt with paws that were probably a dog's or wolf's, his long ears standing up straight. "I'm going to get Chief."

He grabbed the little Tribe girl, who was standing waiting for him with her small delicate hooves sunk into the sand, and pulled her towards the huddle of trees that Milo and the rest of the team had been heading towards before. So it was the camp.

"I'm Milo," said Milo in the silence that followed. "I'm the..." He paused, looking for a word in Joju that meant the same as 'swaggiest', and settled for 'best'. "Best of them all."

"Milo," Lochie said patiently in English, making Carter look at him strangely. "Don't make me stab you, decapitate you, and pull your heart out and eat it."

Milo saluted him.
